Former Mauritanian president Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz on Monday firmly denied in court all allegations he faces of abusing his power and amassing a huge fortune. Aziz, who ruled the pivotal country between North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa between 2008 and 2019, fell into disgrace under successor and current President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani. With the prosecution having demanded a 20-year sentence, the 66-year-old former leader embarked on an hours-long monologue in court. The company has now received approval from the National Bank of Rwanda for a Payment Service Provider license, which will enable direct integration with banks and mobile money operators locally. NALA has been operating in Rwanda since 2021, partnering with other companies to disburse remittance payments to bank accounts and mobile money wallets. The new PSP license enables NALA to process disbursements and collections in-house, reducing cost and increasing reliability for those sending money to and collecting money from Rwanda. “We have worked closely with the Bank of Rwanda to complete the appropriate steps to become licensed as a Payment Service Provider. With this new license, NALA commits to supporting and collaborating with the Rwandan regulator and the relevant government agencies to accomplish our shared ambitions.”

When Woppa Diallo was 12, her aunt took her to visit a family friend in a village in northern Senegal. Diallo was subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM), which involves the partial or total removal of the external female genitalia. At 15, she founded Amfe, L’Association pour le Maintien des Filles à l’Ecole (the Association for Keeping Girls in School) in Matam, her hometown in north-east Senegal. Last month, a story she co-authored with her husband, Mame Bougouma Diene, based on her experiences of violence, won the Caine prize for African writing. They are the first pair to win the award since it began in 2000, and the first winners from Senegal.

Anand’s appointment will support the bank’s ability to serve clients across markets, said Leung, who joined the bank earlier this year also from UBS. Before UBS, he was a team head for non-resident Indians at Credit Suisse and was there for almost a decade. The country’s growing wealth management industry could be worth $5.5 trillion by 2025, according to Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Sarah Jane Mahmud.

The TSOs also are actively seeking sufficient contractual commitments from future network users to underpin their investment decisions in hydrogen networks, with the first financial investment decision – on the Hydrogen Network Netherlands project to create a national network there – already taken. The European Hydrogen Backbone initiative is a group of currently 33 TSOs spanning the European continent and collaborating to lead hydrogen infrastructure development. The report concludes stating that the initiative views investment in the hydrogen backbone as a necessary step forward for achieving lowest cost societal decarbonisation in Europe.
