German newspaper highlights Vietnam’s post-pandemic economic recovery

Illustrative image (Photo: VNA)Germany’s newspaper Finanzmarktwel t has run an article on Vietnam’s full reopening post the COVID-19 pandemic, with rosy signs seen in all sectors.According to the article, Vietnam faced a range of difficulties in the fight against the pandemic last year due to the spread of the Delta variant . However, the Southeast Asian nation has fully opened and shifted to living safely with the pandemic despite Omicron waves this year.The country’s export-import value hit a record 67.37 billion USD in March, of which 34.71 billion USD came from exports, surpassing the previous record in July 2021.The article cited a forecast by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as saying that Vietnam’s economy will expand about 6.5 percent this year.It also highlighted Vietnam’s export of electronic products, especially mobile phones, garments-textiles and timber products.Tim Lee Lahaphan, an economist from Standard Chartered Bank, said more and more foreign firms have planned to move their supply chains to Vietnam that is dubbed as a centre of electronics, garments-textile and footwear in the region, the article noted.Apart from production and trade, the domestic tourism is also bouncing back, the article said, adding that since mid-March, Vietnam announced its complete resumption of tourism activities.Tourism has significantly contributed to Vietnam’s economy, making up 9.2 percent of the national gross domestic product (GDP) last year, the article said./.

Nearly 120 million USD to be used to build 4 aircraft maintenance workshops at Long Thanh airport

An aircraft maintenance workshop - Illustrative image (Photo: VNA)– The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has recently submitted to the Ministry of Transport for appraisal and approval four investment projects on building and operating aircraft maintenance workshops at Long Thanh International Airport with a total investment of more than 2.75 trillion VND (119.7 million USD).The facilities all meet the standards of the CAAV, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).Each project is expected to be constructed within 24 months from the effective date of the project contract, and the estimated operation time is 25 years from the date of completion of the project.Located 40km to the east of Ho Chi Minh City, Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai province is expected to relieve overloading at the southern metropolis’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport, which is currently the largest in Vietnam.Covering more than 5,580 hectares, it will spread across six communes in Long Thanh district. Its construction has been divided into three phases.In the first phase, a runway and one passenger terminal along with other supporting facilities will be built to serve 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo each year. This phase is scheduled to be completed in 2025.The project started in 2021. Once fully completed by 2050, the airport will be able to handle 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo annually./.

Vietnam - important partner of Chile in Southeast Asia: Chilean FM

– Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile Pham Truong Giang on May 2 paid a courtesy call to newly-appointed Chilean Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola Noguera who affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of Chile in Southeast Asia.Both sides shared delight at the progress in the relationship between the two countries over the years.Despite impacts of COVID-19, two-way trade hit 1.59 billion USD in 2021, maintaining Vietnam's postion as Chile ’s top partner among ASEAN countries, they noted.Minister Noguera said she hopes Ambassador Giang will continue making contributions to the promotion of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.She suggested that the ambassador coordinate closely with relevant agencies to hasten the signing and implementation of memoranda of understanding between Vietnam and Chile, especially in agricultural cooperation. She asked for Vietnam's support to Chile to join the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA) and become a member of the UN Human Rights Council in the 2023-2025 tenure.For his part, Ambassador Giang pledged to continue to work hard to connect ministries, sectors, localities and business communities of Vietnam and Chile, thus optimising the collaboration potential of both sides. He proposed that Chile share experience with Vietnam in COVID-19 response, climate change and green energy transition.The diplomat said he hopes the two countries will increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, while strengthening the existing annual dialogue and cooperation mechanisms, including the political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries, consultations between the two trade ministries and the Vietnam -Chile Free Trade Council./.

National strategy on environmental protection to 2030 approved

(Photo: VNA)Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has signed a decision approving the National Strategy for Environmental Protection to 2030 with a vision until 2050, in which the Government sets targets to prevent the increasing trend of environmental pollution, solve urgent environmental problems, and step by step improve and restore the quality of the environment. To this end, the strategy gives a number of key solutions, including actively preventing and controlling negative impacts on the environment and environmental incidents, encouraging ecological and circular economic development, green growth, promoting sustainable production and consumption. Facilities with high risks of causing environmental pollution will be strictly monitored, while transboundary environmental problems will be managed, according to the strategy. Besides, the strategy focuses on solving key and urgent environmental issues, settling environmental pollution and degradation; maintaining and improving the environment quality and hygiene; conserving the nature and biodiversity, promoting environmental protection in the exploitation and use of resources; proactively protecting the environment to contribute to improving the capacity to adapt to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions./.

Vietnamese cultural centre opened in Italy’s Venice city

(Photo: VNA)– A Vietnamese cultural centre has been opened in Venice city, Italy, expected to help promote cultural cooperation and exchange between the two countries.Renato Darsie, Chairman of the Italy - Vietnam Friendship Sub-Association in the Veneto region, affirmed the importance of the coming into being of the centre, noting that together with the teaching of the Vietnamese language at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, this will help foster bilateral cultural exchange.He also expressed his hope that through the centre, Vietnam’s cultural cooperation with Italy, including the Veneto region, will record concrete strides in the time ahead.Pham Hung Vuong, a Vietnamese student in Venice , said there are about 50 Vietnamese students in the city, but they previously lacked a venue for learning with international friends. This cultural centre will be a good place for them to study and popularise the Vietnamese culture to their Italian and international peers.Addressing the launch, Ambassador Duong Hai Hung thanked the official and the sub-association for their efforts to coordinate with regional and municipal authorities to open the cultural centre.He said the opening is important to the two countries’ friendship and cooperation as the centre will help enhance bilateral cultural understanding.The diplomat said he hopes the students will hold activities to introduce the culture of Vietnam to Italian friends and encourage more Vietnamese youths to come to study in this European country. He described Vietnamese students in Italy as the “cultural ambassadors” of Vietnam and “cultural bridges” between the two peoples./.
