Vietnam’s delegation meets with foreign representatives on sidelines of AIPA-44

The Vietnamese National Assembly (NA)'s delegation had bilateral meetings with delegation heads from AIPA observer nations on the occasion of the 44th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly ( AIPA-44 ) in Jakarta, Indonesia, on August 8.Chairman of the NA Committee for External Relations Vu Hai Ha met with Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation of the Ukrainian Parliament Oleksandr Merezhko; Chairman of the Georgian Parliament's Committee for Foreign Affairs Nikoloz Samkharadze; member of the Foreign Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Ties Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament, MP Kamran Bayramo; and Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valery Mitskevich.Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese NA's Committee for External Relations Don Tuan Phong held a meeting with Chairman of the European Parliament (EP) Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and ASEAN Daniel Caspary.At the meetings, Ha stressed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendship and good cooperation with the countries, and wishes to expand collaboration with its traditional friends in all spheres, for the benefits of both sides.He suggested the two sides maintain their close coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums and international organisations, especially at international inter-parliamentary forums like the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the AIPA.The legislator used the occasion to convey invitations to the foreign legislatures to send representatives to the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians slated for September in Hanoi.The Ukrainian side affirmed that the country wants to strengthen its relations with Vietnam , and expressed concern over issues regarding food and energy security, and the disrupted supply chain, which have not only adversely impacted Ukraine but also emerged as a global headache. (Photo: VNA)The two sides shared the view that disputes should be settled by peaceful measures in line with international law, and agreed to work together to handle obstacles to the bilateral cooperation, especially in economy, trade and investment.Ha stressed that Vietnam supports the international community’s efforts to create conditions for relevant sides to conduct negotiations, and increase humanitarian aid to civilians.Vietnam stands ready to join international efforts aiming to promote dialogues and seek peaceful solutions to the present problems, and reconstruct Ukraine, he said.Meanwhile, Vietnam and Azerbaijan agreed to work harder to make their bilateral trade ties on par with their potential as well as promote their traditional friendship.At the meeting with the EP delegation, the two sides pointed to the rapid, unexpected developments of the regional and global situation, and the need to settle disputes by peaceful measures and in accordance with international law, saying relevant sides should take stronger actions for peace and prosperity in the region and the world.Phong suggested Vietnam and the EP maintain the exchange of high-level delegations and meetings, and effectively implement cooperation mechanisms in all spheres, from politics, and national defence and security, to trade and investment.Meanwhile, Vietnam and Georgia consented to step up cooperation in the areas where both sides have potential like transport, infrastructure development, digital transformation, just energy transition, culture and tourism, and increase trade and investment promotion activities.At the meeting with Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valery Mitskevich, Ha suggested the two countries foster results-oriented cooperation, and optimise their potential and strengths as well as trade agreements to boost their economic and trade ties.At the same time, the two sides should strengthen their parliamentary ties, both bilaterally and multilaterally, he said./.

Vietnam, India seek to foster economic, trade ties

MoIT Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang said that Vietnam and India have a lot of favourable conditions to boost their economic cooperation and trade, as both have good economic growth and stable macroeconomic environment, direct flights link their major cities, and their import-export structures are complementary.She pointed to several challenges and difficulties facing businesses, including negative impacts of world economic fluctuations, the lack of market-related information and business connectivity, and high costs and long transportation times.To address these difficulties and promote economic and trade cooperation, Thang proposed strengthening supply chain connectivity based on the strengths of each country, and applying information technology and digital transformation in trade promotion. She also pointed to increasing direct transportation and establishing more routes between the two countries to save time, costs and take advantage of available resources.Shantuna Srivatava, former Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce in India, emphasised that potential for bilateral cooperation has not been fully exploited. He suggested setting a goal of raising two-way trade to 20 billion USD in the coming time./.

Top legislator’s visit to create breakthroughs for Vietnam-Iran ties: Ambassador

Delegates at a ceremony to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of the Vietnam - Iran diplomatic ties (Photo: VNA)– National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue’s visit to Iran from August 8-10 reflects the importance that the Vietnamese Party, NA, and Government attach to the friendship and cooperation with Iran, Vietnamese Ambassador to Iran Luong Quoc Huy told the Vietnam News Agency.The diplomat underlined the significance of the visit, saying that it offers an occasion to review cooperation achievements between the two countries over the last five decades, and discuss measures and orientations to create breakthroughs in the bilateral relations in the coming years.According to the diplomat, the visit aims to respond to the visit to Vietnam by Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Ardeshir Larijani in 2018, and promote the tradition of high-level delegation exchange between the two countries and their parliaments.During the visit, NA Chairman Hue will have talks with Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf; meet with senior Iranian officials, the Chairman of the Iran-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Group and the President of the Iran-Vietnam Friendship Association.He will also attend and deliver a speech at a law and policy forum to boost economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Iran; make a presentation at the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs; participate in the opening ceremony of a Vietnamese culture week, and visit a number of production, economic, scientific and technological facilities in Tehran and Isfahan.In the framework of the trip, the legislative bodies of Vietnam and Iran will sign many bilateral cooperation agreements to further tighten their ties. The two sides also expect to sign many cooperation agreements in economy, trade, agriculture, justice and sports, as well as cooperation between localities on this occasion.There is great potential for bilateral cooperation in terms of politics, diplomacy, economics, and parliamentary diplomacy, Huy said.The Vietnamese top legislator’s visit will provide a strong impetus to elevate the bilateral relations to anew height, better tapping the existing cooperation potential in various aspects such as politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, culture, and science and technology, the diplomat noted.Parliamentary diplomacy stands out as a highlight in the Vietnam-Iran relationship, he went on.According to the ambassador, the two countries need to effectively implement signed agreements and bolster existing cooperation mechanisms; create favourable conditions for their goods to make inroads into each other's markets; collaborate in organizing trade promotion activities and business forums; expedite the 10th Meeting of the Vietnam-Iran Joint Committee to advance negotiations towards the signing of a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA); and discuss suitable payment methods to ensure smooth trade exchange./.
