The Broadway play “The Shark Is Broken,” a comedy drama based on the making of the movie “Jaws,” is coming to the Vineyard this summer in celebration of the film’s 50th anniversary. The play is currently touring the U.K. and Ireland, after showing from August to November 2023 on Broadway in New York’s John Golden Theatre. It will be on the Vineyard amid the height of events commemorating the premiere anniversary of “Jaws” on June 20. He told the Times this week that showing the play on-Island has been his goal since joining the production in 2019 before its first premiere. Though the younger Shaw played his father in the Broadway production, he will not play that role on-Island as he is touring the play in the U.K.

Write to letters@thetimes.co.ukSir, The extreme transactional view the Americans are taking in talks on a ceasefire in Ukraine (“Trump makes $100bn grab for Ukraine’s oil and mineral wealth”, Mar 28) is utterly sickening. If ever there was a reason for a united European response to one aspect of the talks between the White House and President Putin this is it; to say with deafening clarity that conditions of this kind must not be a precursor to peace in a devastated country fighting for its life. The original rare earth minerals proposal was one thing but this additional set of terms, demanded not by Putin but by President Zelensky’s supposed ally, the US, is shameful and abhorrent. The nations of Europe must say

Mr. Farage is trying to establish himself as the new voice of British conservatism, but has generated controversy at times over comments perceived as pro-Russian. Most Britons support Ukraine, polls show, and last year, support for Reform U.K. fell after Mr. Farage claimed that the West had provoked Russia into the war. Last month, the former leader of Reform U.K. in Wales appeared in court on accusations of accepting bribes to make statements in the European Parliament that would benefit Russia and its invasion of Ukraine. Reached by phone, Mr. Farage said that he has “never approved of anything Putin has done,” but declined to comment on H.R. Live EventsArtificial intelligence can help detect foetal abnormalities from pregnancy scans nearly twice as quickly but with the same accuracy, according to the results of a UK trial published Thursday. The trial which included 78 pregnant women and 58 sonographers focused on looking for heart problems in the 20-week scans, but researchers said the AI could look for any abnormality. It was also more reliable and 42% quicker than humans when it came to taking foetal measurements, with sonographers no longer needing to pause, measure and save images during the scan. "Our research has shown that AI-assisted scans are accurate, reliable and more efficient," said lead author Thomas Day. ”One of the things I really want to do is I want to design a Ferrari,” he told Motorsport.com. But there’s no doubt Ferrari aficionados will be excited by the prospect of a Hamilton-penned car based on the legendary F40. Launched to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary in 1987, the F40 was the last road car personally approved by Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari before his death in 1988. It’s something that has caught out a number of drivers, including the poor soul behind the wheel in January of this F40 — owned by Hamilton’s F1 rival Lando Norris. Naturally, Hamilton has expressed his desire to retain a manual gearbox, just like the original F40, but Ferrari hasn’t built a three-pedal manual car in years and may not be especially enthralled by the idea.

Write to letters@thetimes.co.ukSir, The chancellor is right to focus on economic growth as the only realistic means of funding government spending, including increased spending on defence. Growth targets have been missed but by trying to put the blame for low growth on others, as your editorial correctly states (“Living on a Thin Line”, Mar 27), she damages her own credibility. The economy will grow when our entrepreneurs and businesses are given the opportunity to do so. Increasing the burden on business through barriers to employment, high taxation and increased regulation constrain this. The announcement to extend the Making Tax Digital for Income Tax project to smaller business is an example of this.
