Diversification drive persists
PTT is pushing ahead with a plan to build an EV assembly plant. Development of new businesses, including electric vehicles (EVs), EV batteries, renewable energy and hydrogen fuel, as well as medical products will go on despite rising prices of some raw materials. PTT aims to increase its power generation capacity from renewable energy sources to 12 gigawatts, up from 1GW at present, within 2030. On the subject of expensive energy prices, Mr Auttapol said he believed the prices had already peaked. "Though gas and oil prices are expected to stay high, with frequent fluctuations, the prices will not be as high as those seen earlier this year," he said.

Over 3.28 million rai in 25 provinces swamped by floods: GISTDA
GISTDA reported the flood situation after studying information from the Sentinel-1 satellite. Of the 3,289,514 rai affected by floods, precisely 526,577 rai are rice fields, the agency said. It estimated floods have affected at least 758,000 people, damaged some 3,700 houses, and overwhelmed 1,463 kilometres of roads. The provinces with the largest flooded areas are Nakhon Sawan (650,967 rai), Ayutthaya (430,745 rai), Phichit (402,083 rai), Suphan Buri (356,651 rai) and Sukhothai (269,629 rai), while Nong Bua Lamphu has the least at 287 rai. GISTDA said it had sent satellite images to various organisations to support their missions in planning and monitoring the flood situation.

Upriver provinces face flooding to save Bangkok

The centre also said that the flood deluge from the Yom and Ping rivers was flowing into the Chao Phraya River. "To reduce flooding in low-lying areas below the Chao Phraya barrage from Chai Nat province to Samut Prakan province, it is necessary to regulate the discharge rate at the Chao Phraya barrage at 2,700-2,800 cubic metres per second." The centre ordered irrigation officials to maximally divert water from the Chao Phraya River to adjoining canals on both sides of the river. People in low-lying areas above the Chao Phraya barrage in Chai Nat and Uthai Thani provinces should brace for overflow from the Chao Phraya, the centre said.

PTT expects energy prices to fall next year, easing pressure on economy

He added that PTT is focusing on maximising refinery and transport efficiency and using carbon capture storage technology to reduce environmental impacts. The energy giant is also switching its focus to cleaner energy such as natural gas as oil consumption is expected to drop over the next decade, he said.

In the short term, Poon estimates the baht’s resistance level will remain at 38.20-38.40 to the dollar, as some exporters and foreign investors may sell the dollar for profits. He expects the support level to be at 37.50 to the dollar, a level at which importers are waiting to buy the currency. As per the ministry, in the 2022-23 financial year, the central government has granted site clearance to the Himachal Pradesh government for the development of a new greenfield airport at Nagchala, Mandi. In addition to this, 35 airports, helipads and water aerodromes are planned for development in 2022-23. While these guidelines are for the licensing of the aerodrome from the technical point of view, the licence for the operation of airports is granted by the government as per the Civil Aviation policy.

The prime real estate on Le Phang and Layan beaches was seized from four private companies after the Supreme Court ruled that the land is public property. Four private companies who established restaurants, coffee shops and shophouses along Le Phang and Layan beaches in Cherngtalay subdistrict have been fighting the case ever since. On September 12, the Supreme Court ruled that the 178 rai, estimated to be worth 50 billion baht, is state land and can only be used for public benefit. On Friday, the DSI and Cherngtalay officials deployed a bulldozer and trucks to remove remaining buildings and debris from the land. Manoch Phanchalad, chief of Cherngtalay subdistrict administration organisation, said a budget of 90 million baht has been set aside to turn the land into a beachside public park for locals and tourists.
