Taiwan: War with China 'absolutely' not an option, but bolstering defencesTaiwan President Tsai Ing-wen delivers her National Day speech in Taipei on Monday. (Photo: Reuter)TAIPEI: War between Taiwan and China is "absolutely not an option", Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen said on Monday, as she reiterated her willingness to talk to Beijing and also pledged to boost the island's defences including with precision missiles. Democratic Taiwan, which China claims as its territory, has come under increasing military and political pressure from Beijing, especially after Chinese war games in early August following a Taipei visit by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. "I want to make clear to the Beijing authorities that armed confrontation is absolutely not an option for our two sides. The military tensions have raised concerns, especially in the United States, about the concentration of chip making in Taiwan.

Precision is all that mattersTo make hundreds of drones fly in a choreographed formation, precise coding and programming are needed. Among the factors to be considered are airflow generated by drone rotors and safety distance between drones to prevent collision. As drones are reusable and do not produce air and noise pollution, industry experts expect that they could replace nearly half of traditional fireworks displays. Currently, drones are all the rage in South Korea: Some replace fireworks or guest stars in fireworks shows at festivals. On September 24, LG Electronics hosted a drone show, featuring 1,000 drones, to celebrate the launch of its new refrigerator line LG Dios Objet Collection MoodUP.

Kakinoura, part of a string of islands off the west coast of Nagasaki Prefecture connected to Kyushu by a series of bridges, was incorporated into the city of Saikai in 2005. The aesthetic fish-shaped shelters were created at four bus stops in the late 1990s before the island was absorbed into the city limits. Social media users are also discussing the heart shape subtly hidden in the shelter artwork. There are even posts saying, “If you find them all, your wishes might come true,” but it is not clear how the heart shapes became part of the equation. However, one location has a shelter that resembles a sea bream — the reason for this is also a mystery.

Overcrowding or crowd trouble will be picked up on cameras at the ground, while even doors at the stadiums can be opened or closed remotely. Executive director Niyas Abdulrahiman told Reuters Qatar 2022 would be the first time such an idea had been implemented at a World Cup, describing the system as a “powerful tool”. One of the reasons why such a system can be built is due to the compact nature of the World Cup, with all eight venues within an hour's drive of each other in and around Doha. "The monitoring is done in a proactive manner, in a sense that before it something goes wrong, we are able to detect it," Abdulrahiman said.

Haaland joins hat-trick clubThe Premier League seldom fails to entertain and last week was no exception highlighted by three-hat-tricks. Unfortunately for Trossard, his achievement was overshadowed the next day courtesy of Erling Haaland who scored his third consecutive home hat-trick for Manchester City in their 6-3 hammering of Manchester United. Haaland, Foden and Trossard are the latest in the long line of hat-trick heroes in the Premier League which features many familiar names. The first player to notch a Premier League hat-trick was Eric Cantona playing for Leeds United when they thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 5-0 in August 1992. There will plenty more hat-tricks to savour in the Premier League this season and one suspects a certain Norwegian might have a say in some of them.

I’m really happy for Marcus and Anthony that they came in, also Luke [Shaw] I have to say, and had an impact on the game. All the subs had a really good impact and that’s what I expect from players on the bench. It gives us a better position in the group, we have to win this group, that’s also clear.”OUR TRAVELLING SUPPORT“We always get big support. We have to do much better and that is what we did in games before – better intensity. We have to bring much better intensity.

The United States had been pushing for the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, known as Opec+, not to cut output as it tries to keep energy prices down amid the disruption of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “What we’ve been clear about is the need for energy supply to meet demand.... When it comes to Opec, we’ve made clear our views to Opec members,” Blinken said at a press conference during a visit to Chile. Asked if he was disappointed in US ally and Opec member Saudi Arabia, Blinken said Washington has a “multiplicity of interests with regard to Saudi Arabia”. “I think what we’re seeing is that if they continue down this road, it will only increase condemnation, increase the isolation, increase the steps that are taken in response to their actions,” he said.
