Wichian Kanthiya, 43, a patient in Chiang Mai works with his physical therapist from Nakornping Hospital via a tele-medicine app on a mobile phone. "During the Covid-19 pandemic, these three services enabled patients to receive medical treatment without having to travel to state hospitals, and maintain social distancing. These three services help to maintain the connection between patients and hospitals," Dr Rattaphon told the Bangkok Post. These measures are all part of the NHSO's "Long Term Care" service which was launched in 2016 to assist 1.3 million bed-ridden patients who could not travel to state hospitals. "Without this service, it would be impossible for patients like me in remote areas to visit the hospital regularly," said Mr Wichian.

"They cannot deliver justice because they lack synergy and common rationale," said Vicha Mahakun, former NACC member. On Aug 31, the Vicha-led committee submitted a full report of its investigation results to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. When asked to comment on the alleged mishandling of the hit-and-run case, Mr Vicha said the case didn't only involve money, but also connections. In its report, the Vicha committee identified eight groups of people who played a role in the controversial dropping of charges against Mr Vorayuth. "Right now, prosecutors can only act once they receive investigation reports from the police, who can only investigate once instructed by the prosecution," Mr Vicha said.

(Reuters file photo)Authorities have told the heads of universities to stop students demanding reform of the monarchy, warning that such calls could lead to violence. Some groups have also listed 10 demands to curb the powers of His Majesty the King’s Royal Palace, breaking a long-standing taboo. "University administrators should create understanding with the students on this and should put a stop to the demands on the monarchy," he said. "We did not tell the governors to block the protests but we want them to create understanding with university officials, especially on the 10 demands for the monarchy." An Interior Ministry official confirmed that such letters had been sent and said it was standard procedure.

Sanchai 'Peck' EngtrakulTanya last week complained to the media about Ingnaphat "Ing Ing" Ophassirirath, saying she was overstepping the mark in declaring her feelings for Peck. The actress said Ing Ing often criticised her on social media, as if to draw attention to herself, but the message to their daughter took her meddling to a new level. Ing Ing, she said, was just one of his many admirers. News reports said Ing Ing was a student and an online trader. He knows it is better to look for pleasure in the thing he has rather than the things he lacks," James said, referring to the hapless Ing Ing.

The popularity of the legend of Ai Khai (egg boy) -- believed to be the spirit of a boy with the power to grant people wishes -- has increased dramatically in recent months. People who had their wishes granted follow the customary practice of setting off firecrackers and donating rooster statues to the spirit of Ai Khai. As a result, Nakhon Si Thammarat has gained the highest amount of tourism revenue so far this year among 55 targeted emerging tourism provinces. Legend has it that Ai Khai was a young disciple of a revered monk from the South in the Ayutthaya period. Their temperature is checked before they are allowed to enter a pavilion where the statue of Ai Khai is enshrined.

Memories of serious cereal behaviourThe recent PostScript column concerning the unlikely combination of bathroom submarines and cornflakes prompted a number of seasoned readers to recall their childhood breakfast delights. Shredded Wheat announced "That 'Good Morning' Feeling" while Kellogg's Rice Krispies probably had the most memorable catchphrase with "Snap! Nosebag noshWhatever your taste, breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day, something that gets you off to a good start. As a kid I grew up in a cornflakes environment, but did have a brief flirtation with Rice Krispies, possibly influenced by the slick "Snap! I wonder if any readers are currently partaking of a kipper breakfast.

Safe streets goal still eludes BMAAs streets across Thailand's major cities are quieter due to the absence of tourists and the economic slowdown brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, it is high time to make the nation's streets and sidewalks safer for everyone. It is not a secret that Bangkok's streets are a minefield. Recently, social media was buzzing after a bus stop shelter on Ratchadamri Road collapsed on Friday afternoon, injuring two people. He received several stitches which shows how despite the regular occurrence of such incidents, improvements have yet to be made to make the streets safer for pedestrians. Not only did he repeat the chance to pose with a wheelchair, he repeated the promise he made in years past -- to make Bangkok's streets safer and more accessible to all.

Progress on CP-Tesco dealThe Trade Competition Commission is likely to rule on the CP-Tesco deal next month. According to Sakon Varunyuwatana, chairman of the Office of Trade Competition Commission (OTCC), his agency has made good progress in vetting the transaction, with an ad hoc committee established to consider the details. "The vetting committee and the office insist on carefully considering the deal in accordance with the scope of responsibilities, given that this deal is considered large-scale and vital to the country's overall retail market." "Currently we've started seeing direct express delivery services to buyers by some convenience stores," Mr Somchai said. "This practice has affected existing small-scale retail shops and may eventually lead some large retail groups to dominate the country's overall retail market."

Plastic waste still an issueWhen it comes to policy on waste management and recycling, the Prayut Chan-o-cha administration is generally deemed to be progressive. Furthermore, the ministry announced it aims to have plastic waste in Thailand recycled 100% by 2027. While the impurity of local plastic waste is an issue, the government should not postpone the ban. Greenpeace, in its 2019 report, said the total amount of imported plastic waste between 2016 and 2018 rose from 836,529 tonnes to 2,265,962 tonnes. Yet imported plastic waste would undermine the local recycling industry by affecting the supply and therefore the market price.

Govt and Senate are playing with fireHouse Speaker Chuan Leekpai, at mic, accepts a motion seeking charter changes from Pheu Thai leader Sompong Amornvivat. It is known the Senate holds the key to charter amendments because one third of the Senate, which equates to 84 votes, is needed to facilitate changes to the supreme law. The first stems from calls to "switch off" the current Senate's power to vote for the prime minister along with the Lower House, as stipulated by Section 276 of the constitution. Among the 250-strong Senate appointed by the now-defunct National Council for Peace and Order regime, there are three factions. At the same time, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam have claimed two referendums would be too costly, at almost 10 billion baht, and time-consuming.

They reckon the premier's star is going through a weak phase, which may open a window of opportunity for his enemies. Astrology aside, Gen Prayut finds himself in a quagmire and needs to tread with utmost caution if he is to save his administration from possible demise. The source says the prime minister knows better than to fight several battles at the same time. The prime minister repeated his assertion that the submarines were a key part of the armed forces' development and that the purchase could only be delayed. Critics see the military-appointed Senate as a "political party," with 250 votes for Gen Prayut.
