TRIPOLI: The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has raised concern regarding armed group conflicts west of Tripoli, Libya's capital. According to media reports, the UNSMIL raised alarm about Sunday's confrontations in Tripoli. "The UNSMIL expresses its grave concern regarding the indiscriminate shooting and the reported use of heavy weaponry in the Janzour district, a densely populated Tripoli neighbourhood on May 15," the Mission stated in a statement. All parties in Libya, the Mission said, should display the greatest caution and seek discussion to resolve thorny issues, while also fulfilling their responsibility to safeguard civilians and infrastructure. Since the demise of Muammar Gaddafi's administration in 2011, Libya has been experiencing increasing violence and conflict.
