From petty thieves to armed robbers, the crime rate in the sprawling Witeithie estate in Juja, Kiambu county, has been on the rise. Residents have expressed their concerns and fear over the recent crime wave that has led to criminals being felled by police officer. They told the Star they are living at the mercy of the ruthless gangsters, who have been terrorising them. A police officer, who sought anonymity, said in one month, four M-Pesa shops have been raided by armed thugs in the estate. Juja police boss Patricia Nasio warned criminals that police will be ruthless in dealing with the criminals.
