Cancer survivors can donate blood, according to the National Blood Bank. However, the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service, says the patients can only donate blood (pictured) after a certain period after treatment. According to the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service deputy director Josephine Githaiga a large percentage of the Kenyan population is eligible to donate blood. Other people not eligible to donate blood include people who have contracted sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV or syphilis. âA very small fraction of those eligible to donate blood participate in the exercise, perhaps due to misconceptions.
