Brad Hand was supposed to be the big piece that would rescue the Blue Jays’ ailing bullpen. When Hand joined the Jays at the July 30 trade deadline, there was some initial speculation that he would eventually move into the closer’s role. The Jays lost this trade, there’s no doubt about that, but they deserve credit for cutting bait early. The Jays bullpen has been decent enough lately with a 4.05 ERA in August, thanks to the rotation shouldering most of the load. Five months into the year and the Jays bullpen is still a work in progress.
