Embu speaker Justus Mate has criticised MCAs for engaging in a shouting match while electing an acting speaker while he was in China. Mate said Embu is the first in the country in its legislative and oversight duties, but the shouting in mother tongue, English and Kiswahili did not go down well. Trouble started after Gaturi South MCA John Mwangi demanded that the poll be carried out by acclamation, while Kithimu’s Michael Njeru insisted on the secret ballot, before a dispute on whether ballot papers with unofficial names of the candidates should be recognised or not.
