Mavoko squatters’ plea to Uhuru: Resettle us during your visit to Ukambani

Squatters from Mavoko subcounty have urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to resettle them during his three-day visit to Ukambani this week. The spokesman said they expect Uhuru to restore to the squatters ownership of Athi River land currently under the custody of various institutions. “We were born and raised in Mavoko,” he told the Star in Athi River town yesterday. He said the squatters are in dire need of the public land, parts of which were grabbed and sold after their leases expired. “Our parents died and left us as squatters after the Athi River Settlement Scheme was grabbed by senior people in government.”Mwanzi said the government should allocate public land to the squatters.
