School rugby coach warned after brawl

A high school rugby coach has been warned by police for his behaviour during a rugby game which ended in a mass brawl involving students and adults alike. Up to 50 people were said to be involved in a heated altercation at an under-15s match between Levin's Waiopehu College and Feilding High School, in the Manawatu district. Acting Senior Sergeant Jeff Veale said the coach from Waiopehu College - who has not been identified - was warned about his behaviour in the incident. He told the publication that those students involved had not played a rugby match since and would not play while the local union - the Manawatu Rugby Union - was carrying out its own investigation into the incident. At the time, it was reported the brawl broke out after a youngster was knocked to the ground after a tackle.
