Monsoon diseases: Special training for health officials

The Health Department, in association with medical professionals’ organisations, will arrange special training programmes for doctors and other health-care professionals in both government and private sector hospitals to tackle all infectious diseases in the monsoon season. The training programmes are being organised as part of strengthening Arogyajagratha, the Statewide health vigilance campaign carried out annually by the Health Department in coordination with Local Self-Government and other Departments, to prevent and control the annual outbreaks of infectious diseases. ‘Be vigilant’Even though the rate of infectious diseases so far this year has been better in comparison to previous years, it is important that the health vigilance be sustained effectively as monsoon rains could upset all calculations, she added. As vector-borne diseases and water-borne diseases were likely to spike as soon as monsoon showers start, it is important that the pre-monsoon cleaning and vector-control activities are carried out intensively in May. Ward health and sanitation committees should be strengthened and in cooperation with local bodies, plan and implement various disease-prevention and control programmes at the local level.
