Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago was on Saturday forced to take charge of traffic control in Eldoret town for more than one hour to help ease heavy traffic jams as traffic police officers were missing from all routes. Mandago was spotted controlling vehicles especially along the Eldoret-Iten road where he had been held in a heavy snarl up. The governor was at times forced to engage in arguments with matatu operators and other road users who openly broke traffic regulations worsening the traffic jams. Mandago said he decided to take charge to avoid having many people waste time in the traffic jams. A week ago Mandago caused a stir in Eldoret when President Kenyatta arrived late in the town to campaign yet street lights put up by the Kenya Power company were not working.
