Libya's Presidential Council hails EU rejection of Tripoli offensive

The Presidential Council has welcomed the European stance that denounced on Monday in Brussels the Tripoli offensive led by warlord Khalifa Haftar and considered it a threat to international peace and security. In a statement on Tuesday, the Presidential Council said its "European allies" were right to say that random shelling on civilians could be considered war crimes, reiterating the fear of the EU that Haftar's war on Tripoli would increase illegal migrants' flow. "We call on those countries backing up Haftar to join the rest of the international community in supporting peace and stability in Libya and the region so that political dialogue can be resumed." The statement reads. The UNSMIL also issued a statement welcoming the EU's statement on Libya, reiterating the fact that Tripoli offensive threatens international peace and security.
