Key Pease consultant is finalist to plan reuse of former State School in Laconia

By RICK GREEN, LACONIA DAILY SUNGILFORD — RKG Associates, a key consultant in turning an old Air Force base into Pease International Tradeport, is a finalist to devise a strategic plan for transforming the former State School property in Laconia into a jobs generator. The strategic plan will identify options for creating self-sustaining economic development and jobs on 200 acres of state land at Meredith Center Road and North Main Street, where a school for the developmentally disabled once operated. He has expressed hope that the Laconia property could be turned into a “mini-Pease,” providing good-paying jobs and a boost to the local economy. Chris Shumway, president of Rist-Frost-Shumway Engineering and a member of the commission, said all four finalists should be given fair consideration. Ironwood Design Group is a landscape architecture and planning firm based in Newmarket, and has completed projects throughout New England.
