David de Gea is almost certain to be a Manchester United player next season as the release clause in his contract expires at midnight tonight (15 June). Spanish outlet AS say De Gea wanted the release clause inserted due to his poor relationship with Louis van Gaal. He said: “I think Atleti eliminated some very difficult rivals, and they probably deserved [to win the final] more than Real Madrid. The goalkeeper almost joined Real Madrid last summer, only for the transfer to fall through on deadline day due to an administrative error. However, he insisted on a release clause being included in the new deal to allow him the opportunity to move to Real Madrid this summer.
