The trafficking of cocaine from the Caribbean to the United States has increased from five to sixteen per cent in the past three years, says Government Senator Franklin Khan. Khan cited a report from the United Nation on drugs and crime, entitled “Crime, Violence, and Development: Trends, Cost and Policy Options in the Caribbean”. “A major factor contributing to the surge of gun-related criminality in the region is the trafficking of narcotics, which has facilitated the availability of firearms.
