“The affected companies should stop producing and selling bottled water immediately,” Ongwae told a water forum that Kebs organised in Nairobi yesterday. Kebs said the suspended bottlers were legitimate businesses and they would work with them to meet the bureau’s standards. The Kenya Bureau of Standards has suspended licenses of 369 water bottlers for failing to meet quality standards. Before the suspension Kebs had licensed about 600 water bottlers across the country. Ongwae said they would also introduce a local secured standardisation mark, which bears a product registration mark that consumers can verify via SMS.
