The section to be constructed starts on Waiyaki Way from James Gichuru Junction Road to the Mai Mahiu turnoff. China Wu Yi Company has won the Sh16.4 billion contract to reconstruct and expand the 25km James Gichuru Junction–Rironi road. "The other components, which will be implemented in time, are Capacity Enhancement and Reconstruction of JKIA to Likoni Road Junction, and Capacity Enhancement and Reconstruction of Likoni Road Junction to James Gichuru Road Junction," he said. Other works include the upgrade of approximately 16km of collector roads to paved standard to provide connectivity to communities living adjacent to the project road. A new storm water drainage system will be constructed to drain excess rain and ground water from the road and sidewalks.
