This statement from Swamy comes after Sri Lankan authorities had to deploy troops and military vehicles in the streets amid rioting by irate citizens over the government’s failure to tackle the worst economic crisis. In a tweet, Swamy said, “Burning down the residences even of the Prime Minister, shooting dead MPs by mobs means rioters don’t deserve any mercy. The Sri Lankan Army said that troops and military vehicles had been deployed to ensure public security. On Tuesday, Sri Lanka ’s Defence Secretary-General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne urged protestors to exercise calm and not resort to violence.
