Elgeyo Marakwet minority leader sacked, speaker says move was not political

Elgeyo Marakwet minority leader Benson Kiptire has been sacked a day after his majority counterpart Wilson Boit was voted out by URP MCAs. Speaker Albert Kochei said the latest sacking was not political but rather was done after communication from the Registrar of Political Parties. The speaker said the Embobut-Embolot MCA Simion Chesir of the Party of Independent Candidates of Kenya takes over from Kiptire. Kanu through its county chairman Paul Kibet however protested and demanded to be given the letter endorsing Kiptire’s removal. “Kiptire was sacked after a letter was sent from the registrar of political parties confirming Kanu, which sponsored him was in a coalition with Jubilee and therefore he ceases to hold office as he is part of the majority,” Kochei said.
