The East Africa Legislative Assembly has allowed an MP to introduce a Bill outlawing female genital mutilation in the region. Dora Byamukama introduced the East African Community Prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation Bill, 2016. According to Byamukama, with the advent of the Common Market Protocol encouraging movement, the FGM is expected to spread.
