“The water has greatly reduced since the water sources were destroyed many years ago. Water from Kireita Forest in Lari, Kiambu county, has greatly reduced due to destruction of natural sources by human activity, environmentalist Karegwa Muchiri has said. The environmentalist said they planted 1,000 indigenous trees seedlings, adding that about 200,000 seedlings were needed to cover the 200 acres. He said more than 30 per cent of water used in Nairobi and Kiambu come from the forest. Muchiri was with officials from the Kenya Forest Service officers, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company, Coca Cola Company and National Environment and Management Authority.
