Police confirmed that one person had died at the scene in the De Pijp area of the Dutch capital. In a post on Twitter, Amsterdam police wrote: "One of the victims died on the spot, the four other victims were taken to hospital." A suspect has been arrested and there is a large emergency service presence at the scene. Shortly afterwards it posted: "Five victims individually stabbed on or in the immediate vicinity of the Ferdinand Bolstraat. There is a huge police presence in the De Pijp area of Amsterdam, with members of the Special Interventions Service on site and helicopters deployed.
