Mystery over source of blood-based drug; Indian firm denies supplying it View(s):By Namini WijedasaAn Indian company that official documents in Sri Lanka said had manufactured a stock of now-withheld immunoglobulin to the Health Ministry has denied it had anything to do with the medicines, leaving pressing questions about where the blood-based drug came from. Ltd. has now written to the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) asking for details of the Indian manufacturer, the Sri Lankan importer, the Indian port of dispatch and the Sri Lankan port of arrival. Adverse reactions to the drug were reported from several hospitals, leading to inquiries by health authorities. “Please note that these products are neither manufactured nor supplied from our end,” a spokesman said. The expensive drug is given to seriously ill, even immunocompromised, patients and may be lifesaving, AMS says.

Harvest time of the corn coincides with the migration of crows, attracting hundreds of them to the Mud Lake area. While driving along the canal that leads to the South Boat Ramp on Mud Lake, I watched a steady stream of crows flying from the fields to stop at the canal for a drink. As I traveled along the canal toward Mud Lake, I saw nine family groups of Pied-billed grebes diving and catching small perch. The murder of crows had disappeared, leaving the hawks to harvest some careless rodents. What a marvelous world we live in – I don’t know who named a flock of crows a “murder,” but I sure enjoyed watching it.

IORA: Is cooperation possible without peace View(s):The IORA (Indian Ocean Rim Association) formed in 1997 by India and South Africa meets next week under the chairmanship of Sri Lanka at a time when the seas are simmering with geopolitical undercurrents. This was taken further at the Lusaka summit in 1970 calling for the Indian Ocean to be a zone of peace. 2832 declaring the Indian Ocean a Zone of Peace. Its interpretation of marine security is more about security cooperation like in human trafficking at sea, piracy and IUU (Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated) fishing. The stability of the Indian Ocean is crucial to world peace and its economy.

India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission launched on July 14, headed towards a historic touchdown on the lunar surface. The lunar mission had to delay its launch on board India’s Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3) rocket by four seconds to avoid the possibility of colliding with other objects. Before launch, liftoff should be cleared for all space launch vehicles as a mandatory practice, Kumar added. Last year, the U.S. Space Command revealed that it was tracking more than 47,000 objects in space. India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission successfully landed on the Moon on August 23, making India the fourth country to achieve such feat after the Soviet Union, the U.S., and China.

Astronomers have gotten very good at spotting the signs of planet formation around stars. But for a complete understanding of planet formation, we also need to study examples where planet formation has not yet started. This successful non-detection of planet formation may indicate that DG Taurus is on the eve of planet formation. Planet growth is so slow that it's not possible to watch the evolution as it happens, so astronomers observe many protostars at slightly different stages of planet formation to build up a theoretical understanding. Future studies of more examples will further improve our understanding of planet formation.

(AP) — Apple has released an iOS 17 system update that includes a fix to prevent the iPhone 15 lineup from becoming uncomfortably hot. According to the release’s accompanying patch notes, iOS 17.0.3 “addresses an issue that may cause iPhone to run warmer than expected.”The Cupertino, California, company blamed a software bug and other issues tied to popular apps such as Instagram and Uber for causing its recently released iPhone 15 models to heat up and spark complaints about becoming too hot to handle. “We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhone to run warmer than expected,” Apple in a short statement provided to The Associated Press last week after media reports detailed overheating complaints that are peppering online message boards. The devices also can get hot when using apps such as video games and augmented reality technology that require a lot of processing power, but the heating issues with the iPhone 15 models have gone beyond those typical situations. In its acknowledgment, Apple stressed that the trouble isn’t related to its new processor or titanium casing that houses the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

When protests in Pakistan earlier this year escalated into clashes between pro-government forces and supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the now-imprisoned leader turned to social media to bolster his message. The report details numerous troubling ways advancing AI tools are being used to amplify political repression around the globe. Pro-China government bot accounts shared similar clips of AI-generated newscasters on social media, this time appearing to rebuff critics. Maybe most troubling of all, the Freedom House report shows a rise in political actors calling videos and audio deepfakes that are in fact genuine. Even somewhat unconvincing or easily refutable AI manipulation, Freedom House argues, still “undermines public trust in the democratic process.”“This is a critical issue for our time, as human rights online are a key target of today’s autocrats,” Freedom House President Michael J. Abramowitz said.
