The Home Secretary and France's Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin confirmed they had signed an agreement to strengthen UK-French cooperation on illegal immigration in the Channel. It follows accusations of the French navy allowing small boats crowded with migrants to enter British waters rather than being returned to Calais. Home Secretary Priti Patel said: 'The British people have simply had enough of illegal migration and the exploitation of migrants by criminal gangs. With UK support last year, France doubled the number of officers deployed daily on French beaches, improved intelligence sharing and purchased more cutting-edge technology. This resulted in France preventing twice as many crossings so far this year than in the same period in 2020.

By doing this, I presented myself as someone who proactive and wanted the job, which is usually a good sign for a potential employee. I also made their jobs easier by reducing the time they needed to search for a qualified candidate. For small companies, that’s usually the founder or an executive, while at bigger companies, often a director or senior manager. If you reach out to a prospective boss requesting an informational interview, this is an opportunity to learn about the company, as well as what working there might be like. Then, if the interview goes well, ask if there are any other people at the company you should talk to.

Senavirathna who is attached to the National Blood Transfusion Service, and which was published in the said Journal’s 30th Volume’s First Issue on 1 July 2021. Furthermore, Senavirathna explained that in the case of patients presenting with multiple injuries, they frequently experience major haemorrhage, thus requiring massive blood transfusion in which all blood products, and not just the replacement of red blood cells, are of vital essence. For this purpose, an action plan to work together with the national emergency preparedness and response plan is required. Since blood bank staff was mainly involved in the process of the provision of blood, the large crowds that came to donate blood could not be managed by the blood bank. The transfusion of FFP is essential in massive blood transfusion,” Senavirathna further added.

BY Basil FernandoWhy did the British colonial project for introducing the rule of law fail? With the passing of time, this situation threatened the rule of law project itself. However, if this was the case, it would have undermined the privileged positions of the “small group”. The result was that the rule of law concept never came to be owned by the whole population. The “small group” that operated often made use of the confusion for their own advantage.

However, last week, the international community identified Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 management efforts as one of the best in the world. The country is now in a difficult phase of the pandemic, but with the vaccination drive taking place more efficiently, people remain hopeful. The pandemic situation in the United States is a perfect example of the consequences of people conveniently forgetting or disregarding their responsibility. People took to the streets against lockdowns, refused to wear face masks in public and some even refused to actively take part in the vaccination drive. The Government is providing the resources and guidelines to control the pandemic, and the rest is in the hands of the public.

Highlights from this week’s episodeFrom the Ximena Vengoechea interviewOn what a good listening mindset actually looks like:I talk about a listening mindset as having three core components. You’re starting broad with humility and starting open and you’re progressively getting a little bit deeper using curiosity. Are they running out of breath because we keep asking them questions and they’re kind of giving us paragraph responses? Because when we’re doing all of the question asking, that’s probably stemming from our own need...We want to make them feel comfortable. To hear more of Ximena’s advice on the art of deeper conversation, we recommend listening to the full episode.

BY Dinitha RathnayakeUniversity academics are to embark on large scale protest action against the proposed General Sir John Kotelawala National Defence University (KNDU) Bill, following the silent protest conducted by the Sri Jayewardenepura University’s Teachers Association against the KNDU Bill yesterday (20). Meanwhile, the Association also raised their concerns about not opening universities for academic activities. Meanwhile, even though the school teachers have been prioritised for vaccination by the Government, university lecturers have not been prioritised. Therefore, we oppose that the Government has not designated university teachers or students as a priority group for vaccination. The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) said that while certain sections of the Government and the Opposition were speaking of introducing amendments to the Bill, the unions are united in their stand that it should be scrapped entirely.
