Newer PlayStation 5 consoles come with a smaller, lighter heatsink
Sony has quietly switched the launch PlayStation 5 console with a revised model that features some notable changes. The biggest of these changes is that the heatsink is now considerably smaller than the previous one. However, crux of this change is the aluminum and copper heatsink, which has been reduced in size over the previous version, and is now 300g lighter. To put that into perspective, that is almost 16% lighter in mass than the previous heatsink. Evans noted that the fan, which uses a centrifugal design on the PlayStation 5, now has deeper impeller grooves, which could potentially push more air through the heatsink.

Sri Lanka reports 14,394 more COVID recoveries

This brings Sri Lanka’s total recoveries from Covid-19 to 371,992 thus far while just over 50,752 infected patients are presently under medical care and home-based care. The total number of coronavirus cases confirmed in the country is 431,519 while the death toll has climbed to 8,775.

Free Ayurveda medicine delivered to COVID-19 afflicted homes
A program to distribute Ayurvedic medicines free of charge to the homes of COVID-19 infected patients and quarantined persons in the Western Province was launched today (August 30). The program is organized by the Western Provincial Department of Ayurveda. The program will continue to serve COVID-19 patients and quarantined families who wish to seek home remedies by resorting to Ayurvedic medicine. The Western Province Department of Ayurveda states that COVID-19 patients are being treated at home under the full supervision of 265 doctors. Community Health Medical Officers in 40 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Western Province carry out daily treatment of patients.

124k Pfizer doses arrive
A consignment of 124,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in the island this morning. This batch of vaccines is said to be a purchase made by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC). The batch of US-made Pfizer vaccines had reportedly arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at around 2.30 a.m. onboard Qatar Airways flight QR-668. It was then transported from the airport to the special refrigerated storage at the National Blood Transfusion Center, Narahenpita. Sri Lanka had previously received a delivery of 76,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine on August 23 while the country also received 100,000 doses of the US-manufactured Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines on August 09 and August 16.

Over 500 arrested for flouting quarantine laws
Sri Lanka Police have arrested 581 persons during a 24 hour window ending at 6.00 a.m. today (30). Accordingly, the arrested persons were taken into custody for violating the quarantine curfew and for breaching quarantine laws. Sri Lanka Police notes that 85 vehicles have been taken into custody as well. This brings the tally of arrests made in the country so far over the same offences to 61,587. Police also said that 639 persons and 316 vehicles leaving the Western Province were stopped and checked at 13 checkpoints within yesterday while another 1,153 individuals and 489 vehicles entering the province were also inspected.

Sergeant Dinesh Priyantha Herath made history by winning Sri Lanka’s first-ever Gold Medal in the Paralympic Games. He competed in the Men’s Javelin Throw (F46) event set a new World Record with a distance of 67.79 meters, as he secured the Gold medal. General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army was the first to extend warm wishes and congratulations to Sergeant Dinesh Priyantha Herath, the army media unit said. After his injuries, he actively took part in Army-organized Para Athletic training events at the GR Regimental HQ.

SC decision to summon only urgent, essential case extended
The decision of the Supreme Court to summon only the most urgent cases due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation has been extended. Accordingly, the summoning of only essential cases in open court has been extended until September 03, said the Secretary of the Supreme Court, Pradeep Mahamutugala. He said that urgent and essential cases that are required to be taken to open court could be taken up after informing the relevant parties and submitting a motion to the court. Mahamutugala added that the relevant trials would commence from 11.00 am. Further, the parties to the relevant cases are not allowed to enter the courtroom without the permission of the judge.
