The 3 teenage girls who went missing on the 8th of November and returned back home yesterday (09) had ran away from home the in hopes of becoming dancing stars, The Morning learns. Speaking to The Morning, Police spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa revealed the details of what happened to the 3 girls. “The girls had secretly left the home early in the morning on the 8th of November in the hopes of becoming dancers. This is because they knew they had no chance of joining a dance troupe or class while wearing the attire they were in. In a desperate attempt to join a dance troupe, the girls had then attempted to get help from a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa.

Health trade unions launch token strike
Sixteen trade unions in total affiliated to the health sector launched a token strike at 7.00 a.m. this morning (November 09). According to the chairman of Government Nursing Officers’ Association, Saman Rathnapriya, the said trade union action is expected to continue until 7.00 a.m. tomorrow. The association of health professionals, which represents nursing, complementary medical services, and paramedical services, has launched the token strike. Nearly 5,000 employees in the health sector have joined the trade union action. The health workers are urging the government to make the health sector a closed service and to resolve the anomalies related to promotions in the nursing service, complementary medical services, and paramedical services.

Health sector unions to hold protest today
BY Dinitha RathnayakeA total of 16 health sector trade unions are to launch a strike action today (9) in 152 hospitals islandwide, in connection with demands pertaining to eliminating the anomalies in promotions and the issuance of promotion-related circulars, and increasing the special allowances, among others. Speaking to The Morning, Government Nursing Officers’ Association (GNOA) President Saman Rathnapriya said that 16 trade unions affiliated to the health sector including nurses, pharmacists, medical laboratory technologists, public health inspectors (PHIs), and midwives will participate in this trade union action. The strike action which starts at 7 a.m. and ends tomorrow (10) at 8 a.m. will last for 25 hours in 49 central government hospitals, 103 local government hospitals, and 293 medical officer of health offices around the country. Around 55,000 health staff would participate in this strike action; however, emergency services and Covid-19-related services would continue as normal. A lunchtime protest was held on 22 September and a countrywide health workers’ strike on 27 September, mainly regarding the non-payment of the Covid-19 special allowance.

Fr Cyril will not be arrested: CID
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has informed the Supreme Court through the Attorney General’s department that Rev. Fr Cyril Gamini will not be arrested at this moment. The Director-General of the State Intelligence Service Major General Suresh Salley filed a complaint with the CID on the 25th of October 2021 against multiple statements made in reference to him, with regard to the 2019 Easter Attacks, by Reverend Father Cyril Gamini Fernando, at an online forum on the 23rd of October 2021. Whereas, Fr Cyril Gamani filed a Fundamental Rights application at the Supreme Court seeking an order to prevent any attempt being made by the CID to arrest him.
