National Security and ConsensusNoting that the operation is a national security need and not a political move, said there should be not only a complete consensus but also a unified action on the part of national institutions. There shouldn’t be a scenario where the terrorists [and their facilitators] get relief from courts, he warned. He also dispelled the impression that the Operation Azm-i-Istehkam would be imposed unilaterally and answered the points mentioned by not only the PTI but also the likes of ANP and JUI-F. They were using their hideouts to carry out attacks in other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, added. Later, a top Chinese official during his stay in Islamabad again listed security as the biggest concern and threat to future of any investment by his country.

Modi’s and his party Bharatiya Janata Party discourse has frequently been charged with inciting bigotry and intolerance. For example, Modi’s speech at an election rally in Rajasthan, when he called Muslims infiltrators, was widely criticised for its inflammatory content. The situation in states like Manipur and Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) highlights the broader discontent and unrest under Modi’s regime. A complete absence of any Muslim in his new cabinet speaks scores of Modi’s anti-Muslim agenda. India continues to face difficult obstacles during Modi’s leadership as it deals with the fallout from his divisive and frequently contentious tenure.

In a session on Monday, the Senate unanimously approved a resolution unequivocally condemning the mob lynching incidents that occurred in Sargodha and Swat. The resolution demanded that both the federal and provincial governments ensure public safety for all, including vulnerable communities and minorities. I am shocked to see that PTI members in the National Assembly did not sign the resolution on the Swat mob lynching incident, which demanded an end to the weaponisation of religion and extremism. Read: National Assembly passes resolution condemning rising mob lynching incidentsWhile tabling the resolution, the senator read, “The House unequivocally condemns the recent mob lynching in Swat and Sargodha of persons accused of offences pertaining to religion. "The House, therefore, urges the Federal and Provincial Governments to ensure the safety and security of all persons living in Pakistan, including religious minorities and vulnerable communities.

Given the backdrop of the perceived unwinnable nature of war, can peace be achieved in Sudan? Therefore, the high-level panel has suggested the need for new negotiations in which all key players can come together to broker peace in Sudan. UAE’s recent $35 billion financial aid package to Egypt could indicate improving bilateral relations and a possible channel for peace in Sudan. On the other hand, if negotiations succeed, Sudan could mirror Libya’s predicament with rival factions vying for governance. The Sudanese conflict is, therefore, more complex than superficial observations suggest.

Since the return of Taliban in Kabul in August 2021, the number of terrorist attacks has only gone up, much to the dismay of Islamabad. The first five months of this year saw 83 per cent increase in terrorist attacks, forcing authorities to launch a fresh campaign against militant groups. Sources added that Pakistan will also seek China's help in persuading the Afghan Taliban to review their strategy regarding the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Sources said China has stakes in the security of Pakistan as increased terrorist attacks have impeded its investment. Meanwhile, Pakistan believes that the main source of surge in terrorist attacks stems from the TTP hideouts across the border.

According to Paula Sánchez-Sáez of the European Southern Observatory, the galaxy SDSS1335+0728 hosts a massive dormant black hole at its center. The flare is theorized to be caused by the black hole awakening from dormancy and devouring surrounding gas, which heats up intensely before falling into the black hole. This phenomenon, if confirmed, would mark the first direct observation of a black hole transitioning from a dormant state to an active phase. The black hole in question is significantly larger than our Sun, and had been dormant for at least two decades before the flare event in 2019. The ongoing four-year flare suggests an unusual event, possibly involving the shredding of a star that ventured too close to the black hole.
