Pakistan to attend OIC session on Middle East
Pakistan would join other Islamic countries in an extraordinary session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss the evolving situation in the Middle East after the assassination of top Hamas leader in Tehran. The extraordinary meeting of the OIC foreign ministers has been requested by Iran and is expected to take place in the near future. Ahead of the crucial huddle, Iran's acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagehri Kani on Saturday telephoned Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar to extend him the formal invitation and discuss the latest developments in the region. The deputy prime minister conveyed that the people of Pakistan shared the sentiments. The deputy prime minister fully supported the call for an Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers and confirmed that Pakistan would actively participate in the important meeting.

US extends hiring cooldown while unemployment highest since 2021
WASHINGTON - The US jobs market cooled much more than expected in July with the unemployment rate reaching its highest since late 2021, government data showed late Friday, paving the way towards post-pandemic interest rate cuts. The jobless rate rose to 4.3 percent, the highest level since October 2021, according to government data. In July, average hourly earnings rose less than analysts expected by 0.2 percent to $35.07, the Labor Department report said. Apart from a downward revision to June’s hiring figures, job growth in May was also slightly lower than initially estimated, Labor Department data showed. An unexpected weakening in the jobs market could be a reason for a Fed policy response, he noted.

NA body backs Armed Forces for defending country’s integrity, sovereignty
ISLAMABAD - Expressing affirmation, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence Friday unanimously appreciated the Armed Forces for preserving and defending the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan. The Committee resolved that the Armed Forces of the Pakistan belong to them and that they are with the Armed Forces. He said that he Ministry plays the role of a bridge between the government and the Armed Forces in terms of all defence-related matters. The Standing Committee while appreciating the Ministry over its comprehensive briefing unanimously expressed it resolve to support the Armed Forces in their endeavors to make the defence of Pakistan impregnable. Paying homage to the martyrs for their sacrifices in the way of defence of Pakistan, the Committee unanimously decided to visit the Yadgar-e-Shuhada.

In the second meeting of the eighth session, the lower house passed a resolution extending condolences to Haniyeh's family and the people of Palestine. Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, condemned Haniyeh's killing. Nation pays tribute to slain Hamas leader
The country on Friday observed a day of mourning as Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was buried in Qatar after his assassination in Tehran, an attack blamed on Israel that has heightened regional tensions as the Gaza war dragged on. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, members of the federal cabinet and the parliamentarians on Friday offered the funeral prayer in absentia of Ismail Haniyeh. "It will risk the annihilation of world's peace and development," the prime minister warned. The prime minister, who earlier also highlighted the issue in the cabinet meeting, said the whole Muslim world including the Pakistani nation was grieved over Ismail Haniyeh's killing. Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) also condemned the high-profile murder of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

The Buddhist ‘Dead Sea Scrolls’
One such find has been dubbed the Buddhist equivalent of the Jewish “Dead Sea Scrolls” of Gandhara. The aforementioned manuscripts that Dr. Allon et al are working on are birch bark scrolls containing texts in Gandhari language and Kharoshthi script. Now, we have proof that Gandhara indeed gave birth to the oldest Buddhist writings and manuscripts. More importantly, these scrolls appear to be of local compositions rather than texts translated into Gandhari from works composed elsewhere. Beyond conservation and translation of the manuscripts, Dr. Allon’s initiative is also creating curatorial facilities for the conserved manuscripts at the Islamabad Museum.

PBC challenges LHC CJ’s appointment over violation of seniority principle
They further maintained that after its constitution, the commission must reconvene and consider the appointment of the senior most judge of the Lahore High Court as the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court. They further objected to whether judicial appointments, made in violation of the seniority principle, are a threat to the faith and confidence that the public places in the judiciary. Thereafter, the JCP convened a meeting to consider the nominations of three judges for the position of Chief Justice of LHC, including acting Chief Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, and the now Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Justice Aalia Neelum. At this juncture, it is pertinent to highlight that Justice Neelum was the most junior amongst the three candidates for the post of Chief Justice of LHC. The seniority principle, as laid out in the seminal judgment of Al-Jehad trust, is also a constitutional convention.
