Bird Strike On Lagos-Owerri Flight, Air Peace Craft Fails To Land
The management of the private Nigerian airline, Air Peace has said that its Flight P47154 which departed Lagos at 12pm on Saturday August 27, 2022, for Owerri, could not land due to a bird strike. In a brief communique on Sunday, the airline said the strike got the bird stuck on the left main landing gear of the craft. According to statement, the strike affected the operating parameters of the landing gear which made the pilots follow regulatory safety procedures by returning to Lagos where they landed the aircraft safely without any incident. Passengers disembarked normally and another aircraft has been deployed to operate the flight. NSSF pledges to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system
Concerned about the country’s deteriorating health care system, poverty rate and unemployment, the Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) is committed to transforming lives and strengthening the health care system. Its Director-General, Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko, stated that Nigeria needs a committed movement of citizens to participate in development in order to combat rising levels of poverty. During COVID we realized that the healthcare system had many gaps and we want to see what we can do positively to transform the healthcare system.”She added that the NSSF is focused on supporting vulnerable people as they suffer more from diseases and illnesses. She said the NSSF has been a strong advocate for vaccination, including the COVID-19 vaccination. She stressed the need to improve the quality of care in primary health centers and announced her organization’s plans to improve the quality of health care in more than six states in Nigeria.

Mental Health: Jela’s Development Initiatives trains educationists
Jela’s Development Initiatives (JDI), a nonprofit organization, supported by TY Danjuma Foundation, has organized a three-day mental health awareness programme for teachers, counsellors, and administrators across four notable public secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Speaking at the event, the founder of JDI, Angela Ochu-Baiye, said: “The training was specifically for principals, VPs, counsellors and teachers in four public secondary schools. We are, essentially, instituting our Mental Health Clubs in the schools”. Sheikh Aisami: Army dismisses 2 soldiers over murder of cleric
The Nigerian Army has dismissed two soldiers attached to 241 Recce Battalion, Nguru, Yobe State, after finding them guilty on two-count charge. According to the Acting Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lt. Col. Ibrahim Abdullahi Osabo, the suspects were found guilty on two-count charge; namely: failure to perform military duties; and conduct to prejudice of service discipline. The suspects had their ranks reduced from lance corporal to private before their complete dismissal. Recall that police in Yobe State apprehended Lance Corporal John Gabriel with service number N/A13/69/1522 and Lance Corporal Adamu Gideon N/A13/70/6552, both attached to 241 Recce Battalion, Nguru, Yobe State after allegedly killing a renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Goni Aisami in cold blood. FG bows to pressure as CBN releases $265m out of $600 million trapped funds
Pressured to find a solution to the controversial crisis rocking the foreign airlines’ trapped funds in the country, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday released the sum of about $265 million to airlines operating in the country, to settle outstanding ticket sales. A breakdown of the figure indicates that the sum of $230 million was released as a special FX intervention while another sum of $35 million was released through the Retail SMIS auction. With the release of the amount, operators and travellers will now heave huge sighs of relief in terms of running their operations. Due to their inability to repatriate their ticket sales, Emirates had earlier last week threatened to suspend all flights from Nigeria, effective from 1st September, 2022. Similarly, there were indications that British Airways was equally considering suspending operations in Nigeria from December 2022 if payment of its trapped funds in the country is not paid.

NGO rehabilitates 2,700 trafficking survivors, launches HERS Africa

Delta govt holds workshop for STEP trainers
Delta State government’s Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) has organised a workshop for STEP trainers in preparation for the smooth take-off of the 2022 cycle.
