“A vote for Winston Peters, and New Zealand First, is a vote for a National-led government,” he said. The announcement comes after a leaked Labour poll showed NZ First holding the balance of power with 6% of the party vote. “Winston Peters and New Zealand First are a force for instability and chaos, and that’s the last thing the country needs right now”. Hipkins said Winston Peters was trying to “stoke fear and division in order to cobble together 5% of the party vote” from “the anti-vaxxers and anti-trans” groups. Christopher Luxon, leader of the National Party, will now come under pressure to make a decision about whether he could work with New Zealand First.

The NZ Avalanche Advisory puts the risk of an avalanche in the Aoraki/Mt Cook area at “considerable” above 2000m, with “dangerous avalanche conditions”. Right now there’s a heightened avalanche risk generally.”At the same time, avalanches were something that could be seen regularly from Aoraki/Mt Cook Village, McBride said.
