The Transport Minister also took to task Terengganu PKR chairman Azan Ismail for claiming that the ECRL tickets were to be priced exorbitantly. "Azan's claims that ECRL passenger tickets will be six times of air fares is purely speculative, baseless and devoid of any hard facts. In essence, Dr Wee said the fee structure of ECRL tickets would be based on affordability and effective for operations and maintenance at the same time. Dr Wee also stressed that ECRL's fare structure would need to obtain the government's approval prior to operations. In response, Azan told MalaysiaKini on May 5 that the ECRL tickets could be expensive due to costly construction costs.

Industry players believe that a rebranding exercise of these jobs might help attract locals although higher salaries and better working hours are also needed. He believes that the rebranding of these jobs may make them more attractive to locals and at the same time, reduce the dependency on foreign workers. With certified skills and higher wages, locals would be attracted to perform the rebranded 3D jobs,” he said. “3D jobs have long working hours and this is where locals feel they have been shortchanged. “It is difficult to remove the stigma of such jobs because there are ample other jobs locals can do.”He stressed that shorter working hours and a higher salary would instead attract locals to these jobs.
