Govt asked to bring back 400 Pakistanis arrested in Libya
Flanked by the family members of the several detainees, the PPP leaders said the Pakistanis were arrested from the warehouses of human smugglers, where they were kept for entering Europe. The PPP leaders said according to media reports and family members, all the migrants were later shifted to prisons to be deported to their country after completion of formalities. They said it was the job of Pakistani mission in Libya and the Foreign Office officials to investigate the detainees’ nationalities when they were arrested. They said no official of the Pakistani embassy in Libya had even met the migrants to ascertain their identities. The PPP leaders demanded the caretaker prime minister and foreign and interior ministers to ensure early and safe return of the immigrants to their homeland.

662 illegal migrants rescued off Libyan coast: UN agency
Tripoli: Up to 662 illegal migrants were rescued off the coast of Libya in the past week, the International Organisation for Migration said. On November 12-18, 662 migrants were intercepted and returned to Libya, the UN migration agency said on Monday in a statement. So far this year, 14,894 illegal migrants were rescued and returned to Libya, it said, adding that 940 died and 1,248 went missing on the Central Mediterranean route off the Libyan coast, Xinhua news agency reported. Libya has suffered violence and insecurity since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. Many migrants chose to cross the Mediterranean Sea to European shores from Libya.

Repatriation of Bajauris from Libya demanded

Speaking at a press conference, PPP leaders Aurangzeb Inqilabi, Malik Saeed-ur-Rahman, Khan Bahadur and others said that a group of 60 young men, who were trying to reach Europe due to unemployment and poverty were arrested in Libya a few months ago and were undergoing imprisonment over there. Accompanied by families of the men arrested in Libya, the PPP leaders said that a union of the local people were willing to pay for the return ticket and other expenses, asking the government to facilitate their repatriation to Pakistan as their families were going through mental agony.

Russia plans to give scholarships to students in Libya

Libyan oil firms expect to cooperate with Chinese counterparts
TUNIS, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Libyan oil companies on Monday expressed the hope to cooperate with their Chinese counterparts to increase production and further develop the industry. Noting "China has great achievements in the oil and gas sector" Abdulhadi Abugnima, workover superintendent at the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC), said his company is eager to work with major oil companies to increase Libyan oil and gas production and to also bring down operational costs by using new technologies. Ghaith Bashir al-Firjani, head of the Well Drilling and Maintenance Department of Libya's Al-Waha Oil Company, said: "We seek to make sure that Chinese companies play a role in the Libyan oil sector, as this would create good competition in the sector." However, the sector has suffered over the past years from armed conflict and oil field and port closures. In November last year, Libya's Minister of Gas and Oil Mohamed Aoun announced that Libya is seeking to increase oil production to 2.1 million barrels per day and natural gas production to about 4 million cubic feet per day over the next five years.

Libya’s medium-term economic outlook remains positive despite the devastating floods that hit the country in September, mainly on the back of projected high oil prices, the International Monetary Fund has said. There is an urgent need for a clear economic vision for the country, the IMF said. "In the short term, Libya requires a budget to support policy credibility, because untargeted fiscal spending complicates the implementation of the macroeconomic policy," the fund said. "The immediate benefit stemming from the August announcement is improved co-ordination in the areas of monetary policy, banking system liquidity and supervision. "Progress in addressing Libya’s short and medium-term challenges – including by modernising fiscal and monetary policy frameworks – will, to a large extent, depend on the pace of political reconciliation," the IMF said.

Libya exported quantities of dates to Morocco with the mutual opening of branches of companies from both countries as part of the successful outcomes of the Moroccan Libyan Business Forum held from 1 to 3 November at Tangiers, Morocco. The news was confirmed in an exclusive statement to Libya Herald by Yassin Busriwail, the General Manager of Outbox Team Company, organiser of the Moroccan Libyan Business Forum, and a member of the Libyan Business Council (LBC). SR GROUP, the agent of the German company Deutsche Colour Building Technologies, Libya branch, meanwhile, announced the opening of a new branch in Morocco. Partnerships were also concluded between Libyan investors and Moroccan companies to establish joint industries in the two countries, led by the textile, clothing and manufacturing industries. Branches for Libyan and Moroccan companies in both countries and granting the necessary facilities, were also agreed, Busriwail said.

Al-Refee bank manager detained pending trial for attempted LD 15 million fraud
The Attorney General’s Office announced Saturday that the Public Prosecutor has ordered the detention, pending trial, of the Manager of the Al-Refee (Rural) Bank, Tripoli branch. The manager is accused of illegal banking operations conducted on bank accounts. This involved the bank manager opening a bank account in a different bank for the purpose of entering an amount of LD 15 million into a bank transfer ring. In this process, the accused facilitated the seizure of an amount equivalent to 1.3 million euros, using forged bank papers. The Attorney General’s Office said the case was initiated as a result of revelations made during the Audit Bureau’s examination of the administrative and financial work assigned to the Al-Refee (Rural) Bank, Tripoli branch manager.

Greek press: Warnings overlooked in fatal rescue mission in Libya
An investigation by Greek newspaper Kathimerini says that mistakes and oversights in the planning and execution of a fatal mission undertaken by the Special War Command (DEP) of the Greek Armed Forces in Libya on September 17, in the aftermath of deadly floods. The search-and-rescue mission resulted in the deaths of three Greek military personnel and two volunteer interpreters in a road accident. Furthermore, officials disregarded explicit warnings regarding the high accident risk in the region. The bus carrying the Greek team, mostly elite forces from the Special Paratroopers Unit, crashed on its way to the city of Derna, affirming the prophetic warning: “Road journeys within Libya remain extremely dangerous. Sources indicate that on November 10, a decision was made for the military prosecutor of Athens to conduct additional investigations into the case.
