Mother of Light a local group engaged in mental health programs in Liberia, Saturday, October 1st, 2022, joined other local and international organizations to commemorate World Mental Health Day. Some Youth Groups including official from the Ministry of Health, Carter Center and Mother of Light graced the occasion. Samkay indicated that Mother of Light is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Carter Center, Medicines San Frontier and Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency to address mental health issues. Madam Samkay Z. Karworzohn used the occasion to call on the public to take mental health issues as a global threat, adding everyone should work towards the fight against mental health. She also urged the public to exercise restraint and limit the stigmatization of patients of mental health.

Monrovia – The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is cautioning the public including media institutions against spreading what it terms rumors in the talking about US$100 million cocaine case. “Avoid false accusations, and unnecessary speculations regarding persons responsible for or involved in the circumstances of the shipment to Liberia of over 500 kilograms of cocaine worth at least US$100 Million, which was recently seized and burnt,” the release from the Ministry of Justice quoted. The release emphasized that the ongoing collaboration of these countries should serve as a further assurance of the depth, integrity, and proprietorial objective of the operation. Besides the two traffickers already arrested, the Ministry added that all those established by available evidence to be involved in the trafficking, in the instant case, are being pursued both in Liberia and abroad. “No person involved or reasonably suspected of involvement will be spared arrest, investigation or prosecution by the Liberian Government, working in partnership with the US Government and other collaborating governments,” the release cited.

Six Liberian environmental scientists and technicians from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Ministry of Mine and Energy have completed a two-week intensive international training on mine water and mine waste management in Zambia, and Salaam Tanzania. The training which ran from 20th September 2022 to 2nd-October, 2022 was jointly hosted by the Swedish Geological Survey, Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, and the Lulea Tekniska University. The forum which attracted technicians and environmental scientists from Liberia, Zambia, Kenya Tanzania, and Rwanda was intended to boost efforts aimed at ensuring natural resources governance and sustainable mining in Africa. The training considered several topics including mining and sustainability, governance within the extractive Industries, legislation and gender issues in mining, biodiversity, environment, and human rights. “Additionally, the knowledge gained, and vast resource materials acquired, will also be tailored towards impacting each institution’s regulatory regimes, Mr. Jallah indicated.

Liberian authorities have said that they have seized some $100 million worth of cocaine, with help from the United States' international narcotics agency. The operation led "to the seizure of $100 million worth of pure cocaine," he said. The drug agency could not confirm reports shared on social media that the drug had been stored in frozen fish containers. Drug enforcement agency chief Marcus Zehyoue said "a full-scale investigation" was underway along with a search for accomplices who escaped capture. "The success of this operation is the direct result of excellent communication between law enforcement agencies around the world, including Brazil, the United States, and Liberia, among others," it added.

Monrovia – Six women rights groups operating in the country have disclosed that they are concerned over video news reports emanating from the South Korean media involving two Liberian officials, Daniel Tarr and Moses Owen Browne, who had gone to South Korea to participate in the Sustainable Maritime Transport Training Program for Least Developed Countries. The screams of women from inside can also be heard in the video. To establish a Joint Commission for Technical CooperationNEW YORK — The Republic of Liberia and Jamaica, on Thursday, September 22, 2022 in New York as part of the Bilateral engagements of the UNGA, signed a joint communiqué establishing formal diplomatic relations between the two countries. Minister Kemayah, speaking after the signing ceremony, said the establishment of bilateral ties will further strengthen the already good relations subsisting between the Republic of Liberia and Jamaica. Minister Kemayah further proposed the establishment of diplomatic representation at the resident or non-resident level and extended an official invitation to Minister Johnson-Smith to visit Liberia. Concluding, Minister Kemayah, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, congratulated Jamaica for the milestone achievement in establishing diplomatic relations with Liberia.
