UK-returned techie turns train thief, arrested in Bhopal
The Bhopal railway police arrested a BTech graduate, who had earlier worked in the UK, for allegedly stealing from train passengers. According to a report published by NDTV, a senior police officer said that he had an addiction to online gambling and betting. He has a BTech degree from Pune and worked in a multinational company in the UK,” Superintendent of Railway Police (Bhopal) Rahul Kumar Lodha told PTI. The SSP said that the accused was arrested from Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal on February 1. One of the accused persons granted bail is the father of a juvenile passenger seated in the rear seat of the Porsche.

McKenzie clarifies claim South Africa will host Wafcon 2026
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, February 2, 2026 – South Africa’s sports minister Gayton McKenzie says “no formal decision has been taken to relocate” the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) away from Morocco after his deputy announced that South Africa would step in and stage the finals. “When Morocco said ‘We are not able to host’, South Africa, we said ‘Yes, we are available’. But later in the evening McKenzie said that Morocco “remains the officially designated host” of Wafcon 2026. “South Africa has expressed its willingness to support Caf if required, should alternative hosting arrangements for the 2026 Wafcon become necessary. South Africa has reportedly tabled a bid to host the 2028 Afcon, and McKenzie says the country will continue to pursue a long-term strategy to put on major sporting events.

Legendary variety star Fay Lenore dies at 97
Variety performer Fay Lenore Scott who famously shared the stage with stars including Rikki Fulton and Stanley Baxter has died at the age of 97. Born Mary Leonora Faith Dodwell in March 1928 into a showbiz family in Newcastle, the star enjoyed a glittering career spanning more than six decades. In 2007, the Scottish Music Hall and Variety Theatre Society honoured her contributions to entertainment with a special event at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Shortly afterwards, Ms Lenore was also seriously hurt in a car crash and surgeons are understood to have had to rebuild her face. Her death notice states she is survived by her daughter Shona, son Robb, grandchildren, and their families ‘together with her theatre family from across the world’.
