Negotiators aboard set to work, seeking to save the cease-fire deal between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers before it fell apart and scuttled weeks of high-stakes diplomatic wrangling. The first public visit by Qatari officials to Israel marked an extraordinary moment for the two countries, which have no official diplomatic relations. “We need Qatar,” Guzansky said of Israel, noting that other Arab countries increasingly have interests in Israel and are normalizing their relations. Top Hamas officials, including Hamas political bureau head Khaled Mashaal, live in Qatar. Qatari officials resorted to face‐to‐face meetings with Israeli officials to try to save the deal, according to the diplomat.

Paul Lynch: From film critic to Booker Prize-winning authorBy Charlotte McLaughlin, PA Senior Entertainment ReporterPaul Lynch has gone from being a film critic at Irish newspapers to a full-time novelist and now a Booker Prize-winning author. He has written for the Sunday Times about cinema as well as being the chief film critic of the Sunday Tribune from 2007 to 2011 before the Irish newspaper closed. He previously told an interview with the Booker Prize that he began writing the novel shortly after his son Elliot had been born and finished it four years later. A year before he was put on the shortlist for the Booker Prize, Lynch said he was on an “operating table” which has made him think less about the future – that could bring TV and film productions of his work from Booker success. Lynch also said he was writing a new novel but had to put on pause due to the buzz surrounding him being on the Booker shortlist.

Mr Hanahoe suggested a 10-year headline sentence as an appropriate one, in line with the “presumptive mandatory minimum sentence” for similar drug offences. Mr O’Hanlon agreed with Ms Justice Kennedy he was submitting that while the sentence “may seem lenient, it is not too lenient”. In quashing the original sentence, Ms Justice Kennedy said the headline sentence of six-and-a-half years had been unduly lenient and that the court would re-sentence Lawlor. Ms Justice Kennedy identified 10 years as a headline sentence before reducing it to seven-and-a-half years in mitigation. Ms Justice Kennedy then suspended the final three-and-a-half years of the sentence to encourage Lawlor’s rehabilitation.

This clearly implies that registration of birth is just the beginning of the process to obtain Portuguese Citizenship through “Cartao de Cidadao” and registration of birth by itself in no way gives the applicant the right to be a Portuguese Citizen, Dr Mesquita had stated in his letter. “Bilhete de Identidade” or Identity Card has been withdrawn and instead now they (Portugal) had introduced “Cartao de Cidadao” which is identified as Portuguese Citizenship, Dr Mesquita had further pointed out. Those having “Cartao de Cidadao” do not need such a visa, which goes to show that only these people are considered by Portugal as having Portuguese citizenship. According to Dr Mesquita, the Portuguese passport is just a travel document that facilitates travel to Portugal and “Cartao de Cidadao” is the most important document as far as Portuguese citizenship is concerned. Those having “Cartao de Cidadao” do not need such a visa, which goes to show that only these people are considered by Portugal as having Portuguese Citizenship.

The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport will finish this year at approximately 4.3 million passengers – a 300% increase over pre-COVID days. That will address many of the terminal issues that the growth has necessitated. The airport has approximately 2,100 paved parking spaces; however, during peak periods nearly 4,400 vehicles are parked at the airport at any one time. A new 124-space cellphone lot with restrooms and vending machines opened in October, taking pressure off the short-term parking lot in front of the terminal. A $10 million expansion project is underway to increase employee parking and aircraft parking on the west side of the airport.

Claire HenryA Tipperary man has been jailed for eight years in prison for the rape of “a vulnerable and intoxicated” young woman in a Dublin hotel. The court heard that the woman had been out with friends but was asked to leave a Dublin pub because she was so intoxicated. Further CCTV footage showed Brett and the woman arrive at the hotel and the woman was still unable to remain upright at that point. She noted that Brett still maintains his innocence and claims that he and the woman got naked together in the hotel room and “fooled around”. “Instead, he brought her back to his hotel room,” the judge said before she added that Brett then “raped this vulnerable and intoxicated woman”.

Earlier Sunday, the Irish prime minister lauded the release of Emily Hand, an Israeli-Irish girl whose story has captivated both nations. Our prayers have been answered,” Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar posted on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter. The girl was initially believed to have been killed in the Oct. 7 assault on southern Israel by Hamas and other militants. Emily Hand was not ‘lost,’ she was kidnapped by a terror organization worse than ISIS,” Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen tweeted. He alleged that Varadkar was “trying to legitimize and normalize terror,” and summoned the Irish ambassador to Israel for a reprimand.
