Pep Guardiola embraces the challenge of ending Man City’s poor record at AnfieldBy Andy Hampson, PAPep Guardiola is ready for the challenge as he takes champions Manchester City to Liverpool for a crucial Premier League title showdown on Sunday. City have won just once there in front of a crowd since 1981, and that was as long ago as 2003. “It’s the quality of their team,” said Guardiola when asked why City have struggled to win at the ground. Guardiola’s selection for the midweek Champions League stroll against FC Copenhagen, in which he made seven changes, suggested he had an eye on Anfield. We know it quite well and I think they know us.

Research has found no definitive link between social media use and mental health or social problems in later life, according to a US expert after an extensive analysis of Irish data. He said he found no discernible link between the use of social media among Irish youths and adult mental health issues. He published his findings in ‘Longitudinal Associations Between Social Media Use and Mental Health Outcomes in Sample of Irish Youth’. “The study shows that if there is a problem with social media and mental health later on, then we don’t know about it,” said Professor Ferguson. “In the US they want to ban social media usage in certain stages, while in the UK it’s a discussion too.

Virgil van Dijk has plenty of Man City ‘options’ to worry about – Jurgen KloppBy Rory Dollard, PAJurgen Klopp insists Liverpool cannot pin all of their hopes on Virgil van Dijk shutting down Erling Haaland when the title rivals Manchester City visit Anfield. Erling Haaland and Virgil van Dijk clash again on Sunday (Joe Giddens/PA) Photo by Joe GiddensBut when it comes to City, Klopp believes there is too much quality and too many alternate options to rely on an old-fashioned man-marking exercise. If Haaland is not scoring that is good but they have other options to do that,” he said. “If Virgil van Dijk would be able to nullify Haaland then (Phil) Foden fires the ball in from 30 yards into the far corner, or Kevin De Bruyne does exactly the same, or Rodri is arriving, or Bernardo Silva is doing it. We knew he is a real talent, we knew he has massive strength, especially on the ball, stuff like this.

Ireland will have no problem bouncing back from loss to England – Andy FarrellBy Ed Elliot, PAAndy Farrell is confident Ireland will quickly dust themselves down for another shot at Guinness Six Nations glory after their dream of successive Grand Slams was extinguished in heartbreaking fashion by England. While back-to-back clean sweeps are now off the table, Ireland will still win the tournament if they defeat Scotland next weekend in Dublin. “There’s not a problem at all about getting the lads back on track for next week. “I thought they were super tonight, I thought they were physical, they were challenging on the gain line and played a nice brand of rugby as well. “To cut a long story short, I actually thought that England deserved to win.”

And if you can manage it, using public transport is the ultimate in responsible travelling. As delays are often inevitable when relying on public transport, Colette recommends sitting down with coffee and cake in the train/ bus station or nearby cafe. Being dependent on public transport has its drawbacks, of course, such as a reliance on lifts to get from destination towns out to the countryside or the sea. But on the plus side, public transport is kinder to the planet. If you have small children or a lot of luggage, using public transport can have added complications.

Penalty double helps Manchester United edge past Everton at Old TraffordBy Simon Peach, PA Chief Football WriterBruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford struck from the spot as sloppy Manchester United rode their luck in an unconvincing 2-0 win against relegation-threatened Everton. Sean Dyche’s men settled and continued to threaten, only to be punished by a Rashford penalty after Ben Godfrey fouled lively Argentina international Garnacho. United continued to offer Everton a way back into the match but they failed to capitalise – something you would not expect Liverpool to struggle with in next weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final. McNeil lasered across the face of goal as Everton continued to prove a nuisance, although that effort came shortly after Pickford stopped Fernandes scoring his second. Everton continued to knock at the door and United tried to expose the gaps they were leaving, but neither side had the quality to add to the scoreline.
