England manager Thomas Tuchel says he has not ruled out taking Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman to the World Cup. Sixteen-year-old Dowman was not included in the huge 35-man squad Tuchel unveiled on Friday for the forthcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan at Wembley. But the England boss says he will not close the door on including Dowman for the World Cup in America if he accelerates his rapid progress at Arsenal between now and the summer. ‘I keep the door open for anyone with any age,’ Tuchel said at Wembley. Tuchel said last night they already know who they are but suggested his plans could change if players impress him.

He was also a rear (or tail) gunner, the most dangerous job on a plane. The 101 Squadron, meanwhile, was specially equipped bombing teams that doubled up as intelligence gatherers. But if the aircraft in general were a target, rear gunners were especially so. “Tail-end Charlies”, as rear gunners were known, had to be small to fit their cramped quarters. As a veteran of 101 Squadron, O’Dwyer would surely have been the only member of an elite unit to reach a 101st birthday.

The Brazilian shot-stopper missed the 1-0 Champions League loss at Galatasaray last Tuesday (March 10) due to what was characterised as a minor muscle problem. However, he made his comeback for the 1-1 Premier League stalemate at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. He then featured again on Wednesday as Liverpool overturned their first-leg loss to thrash the Turkish outfit 4-0 at Anfield and advance to the Champions League quarter-finals. The previous two complete Premier League campaigns have witnessed him sitting out 20 matches in total, with Caoimhin Kelleher filling in during those periods.

Gerry Adams was not in court on Friday as the case was discontinued (Jonathan Brady/PA)Mr Adams told the court in London he had “no involvement whatsoever” in the bombings and was never a member of the Provisional IRA, with his lawyers claiming the case should be thrown out as an abuse of the court system. Anne Studd KC told the court a “jigsaw” of evidence from those who knew Mr Adams and those who knew of him would prove the case against him. But during his evidence, Mr Adams said he “categorically” denied the claims and “had no involvement in or advance knowledge of” the bombings. After a delay to the start of proceedings on Friday, Ms Studd told the court the case would be discontinued after “proceedings developed overnight”. She continued that the development was “related” to the argument around whether the claim was an “abuse of process”.

This is based on the premise that the prize fund for the Six Nations was in line with last year’s tournament, which has also been misconstrued as being in the region of €20.83 million. This would have represented a significant increase on, say, the 2023 prize fund of €13.7 million when Ireland won the Grand Slam. In actual fact, it is understood that the prize fund for both the 2025 and 2026 Six Nations decreased from 2023, not due to reduced revenue for the Six Nations but seemingly as a consequence of a slight redistribution of funds. Accordingly, the six have evidently sought to ensure a greater return for each of them by reducing the prize fund. For example, as was previously reported in The Irish Times, the IRFU received roughly €5.15 million after Andy Farrell’s side won the 2023 Six Nations.

BBC Sport presenter Seema Jaswal says she was gifted a 'second chance' at life after contracting meningitis - and things could have been very different. Jaswal, 41, who fronts the BBC's snooker coverage, was only 16 when she caught an aggressive case of meningitis B and was plunged into a coma. 'If you have Meningitis B, many people come out of it with something that could be long-lasting: a disability, you lose a limb, lose your sight or hearing. Babies can get the meningitis B vaccine on the NHS but children born before 2015 missed out unless they paid privately. On Wednesday morning, the National Pharmacy Association industry group revealed that there was no stock of meningitis B vaccines available for people to pay for privately.
