Joseph O’Connor’s novel The Ghosts of Rome won Book of the Year at the An Post Irish Book Awards 2025. As well as being very well received by the Irish music press, Achieving Vagueness was nominated for the Choice Music Prize for album of the year. Not only was Lord Dunsany, aka Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, Mary Lavin’s mentor; he was also an actual lord, the 18th baron Dunsany, and the author of more than 90 books. He was going by the name Lord Dunsany, after all, and when he tried to help during the Easter Rising it was for the wrong side. Still, it feels about time we remember Lord Dunsany.

Mr Trump said the UK-US relationship was "always the best" until "Keir came along". He told reporters in the Oval Office that he likes the prime minister, but that Mr Starmer has not been sufficiently helpful in Iran. On whether he has confidence in Mr Starmer, he said that is a question "for the people of the UK". He said "windmills which don't work" are "destroying" the Scottish hills and the landscapes of the UK. "These foolish countries which are buying windmills... we are trying to have no windmills built in the United States (during my term)," he said, claiming they are "unsightly" and "kill the birds".

Simply put, those who can afford to retrofit are in the same cohort of society as those who can afford to overheat their homes once retrofitted. T-shirts and shorts being worn in January indoors is no longer reserved for tropical climates for those who can afford it. Otherwise the divide between those who can afford this comfort and convenience and those who cannot will continue to increase. At that point we should all be equally able to wear T-shirts and shorts in January no matter what the weather outside. I can now understand why heat pumps and solar panels are found in more affluent areas.

Trump's top counterterrorism official quits over Iran war with stinging attackJoe Kent, director of the National Counterterrorism Centre, has resigned saying he cannot back Trump's war in Iran, claiming it was started due to pressure from Israel and its lobbyView 2 Images Donald Trump has been issued a huge blow after a major resignation (Image: SAUL LOEB, AFP via Getty Images)Donald Trump's leading counterterrorism official abruptly resigned today, delivering a scathing critique of the US President's conflict in Iran. Joe Kent, the director of the National Counterterrorism Centre, announced his resignation, stating he "cannot in good conscience" support the administration's war in the Middle East, asserting that Iran "posed no imminent threat to our nation." In a social media post, he declared: "It is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby." His departure will likely be interpreted as evidence of fractures within Trump's MAGA base, with numerous high-profile right-wing figures strongly condemning Trump's bombing of Iran. Democrats scrutinised Kent for his involvement in a group chat on Signal utilised by Trump's national security team to discuss sensitive military strategies.
