Within Mediahuis we apply strict rules for the use of AI, in which care, human control and transparency are crucial. Explaining his actions, Mr Vandermeersch said: “I summarised reports using AI tools and worked from those summaries, trusting they were accurate. The refinery, which can process 730,000 barrels of oil per day, was already damaged on Thursday in another Iranian attack. It is one of three oil refineries in Kuwait, the tiny, oil-rich nation on the Persian Gulf. Iran stepped up its attacks on energy sites in Gulf Arab states after Israel on Wednesday bombed Iran’s massive South Pars offshore natural gas field in the Persian Gulf. With some 80pc of power generated in Iran coming from natural gas, the attack posed a direct threat to the country’s electricity supplies. In Israel, sirens sounded early on Friday, warning of attacks on Jerusalem and in the north of the country, sending people again scrambling to shelters.

JUST over a decade ago, Kieran Donaghy was asked by PST Sport managing director Colin Teahon to come in and give a motivational talk to staff on the importance of teamwork and honesty in the workplace. Tánaiste Simon Harris has added his voice to the growing calls for an inquiry into the Limerick garda ticket fixing investigations. Garda Peter O’Donnell, Garda Paul Baynham, and Garda Niall Deegan were due to go on trial later this month. The result brings to an end a six-year ordeal since the gardaí were all first suspended after an investigation by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NBCI). All of the criminal charges were in connection with alleged “squaring” of traffic tickets, a matter that would ordinarily have been dealt with by a disciplinary process — if at all. Following that, the NBCI then launched the highly unusual criminal investigation into the “squares”.

Michelle O’Neill said she supports a call from Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, for an “urgent meeting” with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer “on the need for action as energy costs spiral”. Earlier this week, Sir Keir confirmed Northern Ireland will receive a £17 million share of a £53 million package in support of heating oil costs that have risen due to the war in the Middle East. Sinn Fein has said this would only equate to £35 per household using home heating oil in the region. In a social media post, Ms O’Neill said: “The proposed £35 payment per household by the British government, while some people’s bills have doubled, is completely tone-deaf to the severity of this crisis. “There must be immediate and meaningful action to support all workers and families.”

A 19th century illustration depicting futuristic airships and hot air balloons: an airship was rumoured to have been spotted in Meath 1,300 years ago. The man asking is Val Nolan, an academic and sci-fi expert who occasionally reviews books for this newspaper. It all began, modestly enough, with reports of mere flying ships, recorded as background detail to political events. Suddenly they see a ship glide through the air, from which someone casts a spear at a fish. Perhaps the strangest twist in the tale’s evolution is the one by which it turned up in 1890s Texas.
