Rich nations should put US$30 billion of IMF cash towards Africa investments - Finance Ministers

The IMF has taken steps to implement a new US$650 billion allocation – the largest ever – of its reserve currency, so-called Special Drawing Rights (SDRs). “(This would) catalyse investments to Africa, reduce the liquidity premia on sovereign bonds offered by middle-income countries and incentivize green and sustainability-linked investments,” the letter said. “In June alone there was a 290 million shortfall in vaccine supply,” the finance ministers said.

Also, former president John Mahama has said the recommendation by the Ntiamoa-Baidu committee to pay cabinet-level salaries to the wives of president Nana Akufo-Addo and vice-president Mahamudu Bawumia, is captured “as part of the emoluments of the president and the vice-president”, adding: “This seems like an attempt to sneak” Mrs Akufo-Addo and Mrs Bawumia “into the article 71 officeholders’ group”. “This is clearly problematic”, the former president said in an article expressing reservations about the recommendation. “The challenge, however, is that the spouses of the president and vice-president are not captured among Article 71 Officeholders and, therefore, there is no legal or constitutional basis for it”, he said.

He confessed 'politicians' were after him - Kaaka's brother told police
This is according to a statement his brother, officially accused by police for the gruesome attack, gave to the police late last month. Mohammed Iddi known as Baba Iddi told police that the deceased had expressed worry about having run into problems with some politicians who had threatened to harm him. A local media portal, The Fourth Estate, cited a statement late last month which Iddi gave to the police. "Baba Iddi has since been arrested, arraigned before court and remanded into Police custody and helping in investigations," the statement read in part. A ministerial committee is currently sitting to unravel the circumstances around Kaaka's death and the subsequent violent incidents.
