Politics of Monday, 26 July 2021Source: www.mynewsgh.comFormer Minister of Education under the erstwhile Kufuor administration Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi has observed that disunity within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) if not resolved may hamper the party’s quest to ‘break the 8’. “After competitions, we still remain in the various factions. "In politics, factionalism is becoming a fetish…it’s something we don’t want to talk about. "Are we going to break the 8 if after various elections we are going to remain in various groups we call factions? Already, the Trade Union body has kicked against plans by government to review the GIPC Act which permits Nigerian retailers to facilitate trade in Ghana. The move was replicated in Kumasi, Ashanti region as most of the shops belonging to Nigerian traders were also forced to shut down that year after Ghanaian traders alleged that Nigerian traders had taken over the retail business in the country. It can be recalled that scores of music stakeholders including young musicians have described the two groups headed by some veteran musicians including Rex Omar, Diana Hopeson as incompetent and only focused on amassing wealth instead of being concerned about the wellbeing of members. But reacting to such, Rex Omar maintained that he has done nothing wrong to merit insults. “Sometimes the way and manner some legends in the industry carry themselves give the current musicians opportunity to disrespect them. No current or upcoming musician can disrespect me because I won’t give you that opportunity to disrespect me. I’m not broke because I worked hard to get money so I will never go and beg any current musician for survival for the person to get the opportunity to disrespect me,” he stated on Angel FM.
