Over 50 golfers will be competing to gain qualifications of which 24 professional golfers are expected to qualify depending on their total gross score. The three-day event is the last qualification round for the championship after the first round came off earlier this year in March at Achimota. 15 PGA senior golfers and 15 foreign golfers will be added to the 24 regular golfers who will qualify for the Gold Fields PGA Damang Championship. He touched on what to expect at this year’s Gold Fields PGA Championship.

General News of Monday, 6 September 2021Source: ghanaguardian.comMr Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, Sunday refuted claims that government has inflated the cost of district hospitals under the Agenda 111 project. He said the then NDC-led government constructed each district hospital at a cost of between 25 and 35 million dollars, compared to 17 million dollars by the New Patriotic Party-led government. Mr Nkrumah encouraged healthy conversations on the Agenda 111 project and condemned the deliberate whipping up of partisan political sentiments to discredit the programme. He noted that the 100 million dollars (equivalent to GHC600 million) Commencement Funding had been made available to begin the construction and refuted claims that the amount had already been spent. The number was later increased to 111 to include six regional hospitals in newly created regions, a new regional hospital in the Western Region, renovation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, and two specialized hospitals in the middle and northern belts of Ghana following the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said: “we notice deliberate politically motivated claims of impropriety being cooked up against the Agenda 111 project. This includes a claim by MP for North Dayi that the projects were illegally awarded, and the contract prices inflated. Additionally, in terms of costs, the cost of the district hospital under agenda 111 is about 17m USD. This is about 50% the cost of similar projects under the previous administration which cost between 25m and 35m USD,” he added.

According to him, the funds were released by the Ministry of Finance explaining that the lack of funds caused the delay in payment. “I am happy to announce that payments have been made to caterers in all the regions. It is true that caterers in the Western and Western North were not paid due to insufficient funds. The Ministry of Finance has released GH¢31 million for the payment of caterers,” he stated. The suspect who identified himself as Kwaku Abu was pursued and arrested at about 2:00 am Sunday by some residents of the Saviour community carrying quantities of stolen copper cables packed in a sack. He, however, claimed he stole the items from Akyem Apedwa and was going to sell them at Koforidua but he did not have money to continue the journey. He was handcuffed to a building throughout the night and expected to be handed over to Akyem Osiem Police. Copper cable theft in buildings under construction have become a worrying phenomenon for building owners in parts of the Eastern regionA few suspects arrested in the region were established to be electricians by profession.

The RMAG as a key player in helping the government achieve this target remains skeptical about Ghana’s prospects of achieving self-sufficiency in rice production.
