According to citinewsroom.com, the Minister for Energy, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, made this known through a memorandum he submitted to parliament for consideration and approval. The report added that the GNPC, through its GNPC Explorco, is able to participate in the sector’s upstream petroleum. Details of the memoranda said that the company seeks approval to purchase a 70% stake in the South Deep Water Tano (SDWT) operated by AGM Petroleum Ghana Limited. Also, the company seeks to purchase a 37% stake in the Deep Water Tano/Cape Three Points (DWT/CTP) operated by Aker Energy Ghana Limited, allowing it to form a joint operating company with the two entities. In the meantime, Cabinet has already granted approval for this deal to go through.

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) ‘MP’ James Gyakye Quayson, is appealing against the High Court ruling which nullified his election as the Member of Parliament for the area. Mr. Quayson, in his appeal, insisted that the Cape Coast High Court erred in its ruling, hence his action. The Cape Coast High Court last Wednesday ruled that Mr. Quayson, at the time of filing his documents to contest the election in Assin North, still held allegiance to another country other than Ghana. Mr. Sekyi said the EC received the petition from the Appeals Court on Monday to halt any attempts to embark on by-election; therefore, it is waiting on the decision from the Appeals Court to take a decision.

“There are 400 Ghanaians who have gone out there to be trained as doctors, they have come here. Our rules suggest that you have to write an exam, they will be given the results in two weeks. “For those who are successful, they will start working in the government system and so we are able to make use of these doctors. “And this issue has been out there in the public domain and there is a bureaucracy in charge of health issues in this country, we don’t deserve to be told why we cannot make use of 400 medical doctors?” he quizzed. Under Ghana’s laws, when doctors trained abroad wish to practice back home, they are expected to take an exam by the Council before they are drafted into the public health system for some time even before being allowed to join the private sector.

He said that even without the blessing of the High Court, the Court of Appeal could have gone ahead to stay its proceedings ahead of any appeal that is filed before it by the EC, stating that the court acted within its jurisdiction. He added that while they proceeded to hear the writ, the EC could go-ahead to appeal its case at the Court of Appeal. The NDC's Christopher Baasongti filed a writ at the Wenchi High Court to challenge the declaration of the election of the MP for Techiman South, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah in the December 2020 general election.
