Meanwhile, the former special prosecutor has on a number of occasions reiterated allegations of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s involvement in usurping constitutional authorities during the former’s time in office. Martin Amidu in an earlier epistle sighted by GhanaWeb alleged that President Akufo-Addo kept interfering with his work which culminated in a major reason for his resignation.

Fuel prices set to reduce in second half of August 2021

The statement signed by Research Analyst at IES, Fritz Moses, noted that following a 15-day rolling basis, the price of fuel on the local market remained stable within the window under assessment. “Price of petroleum products within the first pricing-window of August 2021 saw the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) continue to maintain prices at the pump from the first pricing window of July," the statement read in part. This pricing window according to the IES Market Scan saw local fuel stations recorded as the OMCs that sold the least priced fuel on the local market. Meanwhile, the current national average price of fuel per litre at the pump station remains pegged at GH¢5.97 for both Gasoline and Gasoil on account of the relative price stability.

Ghana has never defaulted in its debt payment – John Kumah
Already, figures from the Bank of Ghana indicate the debt stock has reached GH¢304.6 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2021 and for the period ending May 2021, the central bank’s figures showed the country’s public debt stock rose to some GH¢332.4 billion. Despite this, John Kumah believes Ghana has never defaulted in payment of debt as funds borrowed are being invested towards key projects and sectors that will assist the government to pay back the loans. In an interaction with JoyNews monitored by GhanaWeb, John Kumah said “we should realize or ask, where are these funds being directed to, are they going to areas that will aid the recovery?”“Ghana has never defaulted in its debt payment and I don’t see that happening soon. Government is now building the required assets, capacity and expanding the economy to help bring the debts to appreciable levels,” John Kumah said. The deputy finance minister argued most of the funds borrowed were as a result of COVID-19 related as part of efforts to cushion the economy from its impact.

At a nine-member parliamentary ad-hoc committee probe on the issue, the embattled Health Minister admitted to entering into the contract with the Dubai Sheikh, without parliamentary approval. He indicated that he approved the purchase of US$64.6 million contracts for the Sputnik V vaccine from Russia, out of the exigencies of the time. But the nine-member ad-hoc committee report indicated that the health minister failed in seeking parliamentary approval, regardless of the pressure at the time and that could not substitute due provisions enshrined in the constitution. Meanwhile, several civil society organisations, pressure groups, and individuals have expressed disgust over the revelations on the deal, calling for the head of the minister.

Ada residents lament over poor roads

Some of the residents told the Ghana News Agency in Ada that the bad nature of the road was putting the lives of pedestrians and passengers at risk. They also complained about the muddy and slippery nature of the roads whenever it rained, making it difficult for them to move to their destinations. The residents, who are mostly traders, said the dust from the road was posing health and economic challenges. Scores of drivers also told the GNA that due to the bad nature of the roads, it was difficult to rush sick people to the hospital on time during emergencies.

GMR renders free medical services to 3500 persons at Atibie

The medical outreach held at the Atibie Government Hospital also administered 7500 medications to the 3500 people and performed minor surgeries to those who participated in the free medical outreach. The GMR registered 500 participants and KPN sponsored the remaining 364 participants. Additionally, the Ghana Medical Relief offered Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training to students of Nursing and Midwifery college in Atibie.
