Fano Forces did not release any updates regarding any military operations in Ameya this week. Local news reports this week indicate that the Fano forces are preoccupied with battling government forces in different parts of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

UAE President Discusses Peace Efforts In Sudan With Army’s Burhan
The UAE denies the allegations although U.N. experts have said they are credible. Emirati state news agency WAM reported on Thursday that in the call UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan “affirmed the UAE’s keenness to support all solutions and initiatives aimed at halting escalation and ending the crisis in Sudan”. Analysts say that though some in Sudan felt the call was overdue, hawkish Islamists have rejected mediation efforts and are wary of the UAE role. There is no accurate data on how many have been killed, but toll estimates run into the tens of thousands. Analysts and diplomats say the UAE, which has good relations with most of Sudan’s neighbours including the Army’s main backer Egypt, may have to play a role in finding an end to the war.

Impostor account falsely claims Ethiopian bank offering prizes to celebrate high profits
Ethiopia’s largest state bank, the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), recently announced a significant increase in profits for the financial year. Following this, a Facebook account posing as the CBE claimed the bank was offering its customers various prizes to celebrate its success. The CBE confirmed to AFP Fact Check that the account does not belong to them and that the bank is not giving away prizes. Irish and Ethiopian aid workers met Tánaiste Micheal Martin in the capital Addis Ababa to discuss aid funding yesterday. ActionAid Ethiopia country director Tinebeb Berhane later told reporters while they did not have a complete shut-down, schools were closed. Irish Aid and the embassy helped with PPE for deprived communities. Mr Martin marked 30 years of the Irish embassy in Ethiopia and met Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Sahlework Zewde.

GlobalData: Tourism deals down by 12.6% in H1 2024
The global travel and tourism sector saw a 12.6% YoY decline in deals during H1 2024, with a mixed performance across regions and deal types. And the same was the case for the deal types under coverage.”An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database revealed that the volume of M&A deals declined by 7.4% during H1 2024 compared to H1 2023, whereas the number of venture financing deals fell by 29.6% YoY. Meanwhile, private equity deal volume remained at the same level. Similarly, the US, China, Australia, and France witnessed a YoY decline in deal volume by 31.5%, 46.4%, 18.8%, and 40%, respectively, during H1 2024 compared to the same period during the previous year. However, markets such as the UK, India, and Japan saw respective deal volumes grow by 7.9%, 12%, and 18.2% YoY in H1 2024.
